Naked bathing sessions are coming to park in the capital this month.

Dubbed the UK’s first ‘Japanese Onsen-style experience’, the two-day event will allow members of the public to strip off and take an alfresco dip in Beckenham Place Park, Lewisham.

In Japan, onsens are outdoor baths that feature mineral water heated to above 25 degrees – and nudity is often mandatory.

As reported by 2Chill, the event hosted by OSU Apple Cider Vinegar, will see two mineral-laden wooden hot tubs installed by the side of the lake at the park.

Each day will include “Full Monty sunrise sessions” – otherwise known as an early morning soaks for naked bathers.

This traditional Japanese style of bathing is thought to have numerous health benefits, including reducing stress, increasing blood circulation and treating skin concerns.

However, there are also swimwear-friendly sessions later in the day for those feeling shy about stripping off.

Clarisse Fraisse, OSU senior brand manager said: “We recently worked with an inspiring team of Japanese nonagenarians who taught us the importance of daily rituals in establishing a balanced lifestyle – it’s a secret the Japanese have handed down through generations for centuries.

“This inspired us to transport people to Japan with the first Onsen experience to the UK, where visitors can enjoy calm body and mind with an authentic relaxing soak and OSU Apple Cider Vinegar in-hand.”

Visitors are invited to ‘soak the stress away’ while sipping on OSU’s Apple Cider Vinegar, whether straight or as part of a mocktail, with flavours including blueberry and pomegranate.

Guests are then allowed to follow up their session with a dip in the Beckenham Park Place Swimming Lake.

The event runs on Friday, August 13, and Saturday, August 14, from 8am to 12pm and 3pm to 7pm.

Bookings can be made for groups of four to six people via Eventbrite, with each slot lasting 45 minutes.

Visitors must be over 18 and double vaccinated against COVID-19, or have had a negative test in the last 24 hours.
