UK theme park to rival ’Disney Land’ to open 20 minutes from London – first pictures

A new UK theme park is set to be the largest construction of such a park since 1992’s Disney Land Paris. Thrill-seekers will be excited to learn more about the new UK offering in Kent, Swanscombe, around 20 minutes from London.

The park will not only be the largest in the UK, but also the largest in Europe.

Planners are hoping to attract visitors from the world over, promising “a resort of global appeal.”

The London Resort said: “The project will be one of the largest construction projects across Europe. 30,000 people and a multi-billion pound investment will transform seven million square meters of land, on the banks of the Thames, into one of the largest, immersive experience centres in the world.

“When complete, it will be three times larger than any other park in the UK. Two theme parks and a resort water park will be set over 535 acres, the equivalent of 136 Wembley Stadiums.

“Brands from across literature, television, music, film and entertainment, are being hand-picked to create unique experiences never previously imagined.”

Themed areas in the park will be The Isles, The Jungle, The Kingdom, The Woods, The Studio, Starport and High Street.

The High Street will feature shops, restaurants, hotels, a Convention Centre and a waterpark.

The Isles draws on fantasy, promising giant creatures and mythical beasts, along with “jaw dropping architecture”.

In The Studios visitors will find a modern-day warehouse themed area with “explosive action, high-octane car chases and high-stakes espionage.”

The Woods is an area designed for children and the young at heart, where it is always spring and fairytales come to life.

Fans of the classic history fantasy will enjoy The Kingdom, “a dark and ancient land, a place of threatening and imposing castles and mystical Arthurian legends.” Be prepared to face sorcerers and dragons.

In The Jungle visitors can find ancient ruins, while travelling forward in time to the 23rd century in the Starport.

“We are creating a first-class theme park. A destination that maximises all the new, immersive and interactive technologies and experiences in the world,” said PY Gerbeau, Chief Executive of London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH). “But we won’t just be creating a world class leisure destination, it will also be one of the most sustainable theme parks on the planet.”

“We have three guidelines we work to when it comes to developing attractions,” continues Gerbeau. “Number one is innovation. We’re not here to copy what’s been done before even if it has been successful. Number two is relevance.

“We need to consider that the customers of today will not be the customers of 2024. And the third is flexibility.

“We need to create a park that can evolve and adapt easily.”
