UK records 11 Covid deaths and another 1,712 cases

he UK has recorded 11 Coviddeaths in the past 24 hours and 1,712 new cases.

This time a month ago there were 3,862 new cases meaning the rate of infection has halved.

A week ago there were 1,882 new cases and ten deaths recorded.

Yesterday Covid cases were down by almost a half compared with the month before with 32 deaths and 2,061 cases reported.

The deaths were 45 per cent lower than recorded on Saturday a month ago.

The reduction in the infection and death rates has largely been attributed to the vaccination programme.

Official figures show the number of people who have had at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine is now 33,666,638.

Those who have had a second dose has hit 12,587,116.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have been 151,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 1,712 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,404,882.

Some 12,587,116 were second doses, an increase of 498,430.

Meanwhile the over 30s are set to be offered the Covid-19 vaccine in a matter of days, according to reports. 

The NHS will start inviting those in their thirties for the jab by the end of next week after securing 40 million Pfizer doses for Britain. 

Officials are close to finalising a deal to acquire tens of millions more doses of the vaccine in time for a third booster dose to be given to the elderly this autumn, the Sunday Times reports.
