UK opinion poll tracker: Gap between Tories and Labour shrinks to 10 points

Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party has crept up on the Tories who now have just a 10-point lead, according to an average of comparable general election polls from the last seven days.

After a tumultuous week for both leading parties, the poll of polls compiled by PA Media, puts the Tories on 42 per cent having dropped by one point from last week. 

Meanwhile Labour has crept up two points to 32 per cent, narrowing the gap between their party and the leading Conservative Party to just 10 per cent. 

The Liberal Democrats are the next biggest party but have fallen one point to 14 per cent this week. 

Finally, the Green Party still stands on three per cent just three weeks away from the election on December 12.

The fresh figures come after a tumultuous week for both Labour and Conservatives on the campaign trail. 

Mr Corbyn was branded unfit to hold high office by the Chief Rabbi who criticised his perceived inaction over claims of anti-Semitism in the party. 

It sparked a huge row which culminated with Mr Corbyn repeatedly refusing to heed calls to apologise to the Jewish Community. 

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson was also accused of inaction over handling Islamophobia in the Conservative Party by the Muslim Council of Britain. 

The Prime Minister did go onto apologise for the “hurt and offence” caused by any Islamophobia in Tory ranks, but remained silent on his past comments comparing Muslim women to “letter boxes”.

He faced fresh outrage when Labour researchers unearthed his old Spectator columns, in which he wrote that the “proliferation of single mothers” was producing a generation of “”ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate children”.

Mr Johnson said that comments he made about single mothers were taken out of context when he was confronted about them live on radio today. 

Speaking to LBC he said that the Labour Party “are just trying to distract from the reality that they have no plan to get out of the EU.”
