UK holiday hotspots to stay open later this year to meet demand for staycations

Even during the summer time the British weather can be somewhat hit and miss, but this year we’ve thrown caution to the seaside wind and truly embrace UK holidays.

Otherwise known as staycations, these holidays near home have seen a huge rise since we were put into coronavirus lockdown and many vacations abroad were cancelled or subject to restrictions.

Analysis by CitySuites found that there are an average of 6,600 Google searches made per month in the UK for ‘Staycation’.

However, during March 2020 and April 2020, an average of 8,100 searches per month were made for the same term – a big rise.

As a result, holiday hotspots here in Britain are adapting to meet the demand.

Holiday parks and seaside resorts have extended their ‘seasons’ this year so that those who’d normally go abroad for some winter sun can still have a break even if they can’t fly.

The Guardian reports that Blackpool Pleasure Beach will be extending their illuminations for two months to go into January, and that Haven will keep 16 of its parks open for an additional month until the end of November.

Businesses in Cornwall and Pembrokeshire that normally only operate during busy season are also said to be following suit.

Visit Cornwall will be putting on a series of events (such as art gallery tours and pasty-making classes) and offering discounts to winter punters.

Malcolm Bell, CEO of Visit Cornwall told The Guardian: ‘We’re trying to say you won’t be bored in Cornwall and you’ll be spoilt for choice, rather than them thinking we’re all closed.

‘The attractions that do stay open in the winter, they are so much quieter and so much more enjoyable in many ways.’
