UK coronavirus death toll rises by 355 as 23,000 more cases recorded

further 355 people have died after contracting Covid-19.

This brings the UK‘s official death toll to 48,475. 

The Government added that, as of 9am on Friday, there had been 23,287 more lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 1,146,484.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 64,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

It comes as hundreds of people have been tested for coronavirus as a new pilot scheme started in Liverpool.

On Friday, queues built up outside new test centres which were opened at midday as part of the mass coronavirus testing programme.

At Liverpool Tennis Centre, one of the six facilities which opened on Friday, people began to wait outside about 45 minutes before it opened.
