UK camping: Experts name the best campsite in the country – ‘worth every penny!'

The results are in and the best campsite in the country has been named. The best camping and caravan spots have been announced today at the AA Caravan and Camping Awards.

The best campsite in Scotland was Brighouse Bay Holiday Park, Brighouse Bay, Dumfries & Galloway.

AA inspector C.J. de Groot said: “Brighouse Bay campsite is situated on a beautiful, unspoiled peninsula. It is separated from a bay by a strip of forest, where you can go fishing, canoeing and hiking.

“The campsite shows much care for the natural environment. Most pitches are level and paved.

“The nearby town of Kirkcudbright (10 km) is known for its many galleries and artists.”

DON’T MISS

The best campsite in Wales was Pencelli Castle Caravan & Camping Park, Brecon, Powys.

On Tripadvisor, Denjar wrote: “Wow we absolutely loved this campsite!

“Camped in Meadow field, you can pitch anywhere in this field and there’s plenty of room and even though it was August it never felt busy.

“The grounds are simply lovely with beautiful planting and wild flowers, pitches well tended and no long grass.

“Toilet block is modern, showers hot and always are spotlessly clean. The family and staff that run this campsite are so lovely, very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.

“This is a perfectly run campsite and we will definitely be back. It’s maybe a little more expensive than other campsites but it’s worth every penny!”

And the holiday centre of the year was Park Foot Caravan & Camping Park, Pooley Bridge, Cumbria.

Mhairi W wrote: “We are seasoned campers and try to get away a couple of times a month.

“What a lovely site this is. We will be returning for more visits. I can highly recommend it.”

Simon Numphud, Managing Director at AA Media said “We are delighted to announce the winners of the Caravan and Camping Awards 2021 and have the opportunity to celebrate those sites offering holidaymakers the highest quality camping and caravanning experiences.

“As the hospitality industry has reopened over the past few months, we have seen British tourists exploring the UK more than ever, enjoying incredible campsites and caravan parks across the country.”
