A UFO has been spotted spying close to Newport, Virginia, according to claims made by an alien conspiracy theorist. The amateur smartphone footage appears to show an odd anomaly hovering low in the sky.
Due to the grainy nature of the video, it is difficult to definitely confirm what the object is.
Alien life conspiracy theorist Scott Waring took to his UFO Sightings Daily blog to speculate widely about his latest dubious discovery.
Waring said: “This UFO was recorded flying over Newport, Virginia last week.
“There is a military base there and the eyewitness often sees millard craft, but this surprised him.”
However, the ‘object’ is likely in reality simply a small cloud.
Experts describe this is an example of pareidolia, the phenomenon of recognising objects or patterns in unrelated objects.
Pareidolia is a form of apophenia, a general term for the human tendency to seek patterns in random information.
US space agency NASA said: “Pareidolia is the psychological phenomenon where people see recognisable shapes in clouds or rocks.”
