Tyson Fury shared a touching moment with his father, John Fury, after beating Deontay Wilder with a thrilling performance to win the WBC world heavyweight title in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The Gypsy King put on a masterclass at the MGM Grand, totally overpowering his American opponent in a brutal display, with his corner throwing in the towel in the seventh round.
Fury’s father, John, is unable to travel to the United States and watched the fight from home, though the lineal champion was keen to make time to speak to his dad after his victory.
Just before Fury spoke with the media, iFL TV captured him speaking to his clearly very proud father, saying: ‘Everyone was thinking what’s he doing at this high weight, 272lbs. I was 19 stone 4lbs tonight, solid.
‘Listen, I was too strong for him dad. I was 40lbs heavier than him. He was about 15 and a half stone and I was about 19 and a half stone.’
The conversation seemed to change to Wilder’s corner throwing in the towel, with Tyson continuing: ‘Yeah they did a good thing. Listen, I was going to hurt him I was. I busted his ear, blood running down his ear.
‘Listen, he was long dead. He didn’t recover from the first knock down. I hit him with a left hook to the body and tripled him. The sheer strength of me put him over with a body shot.
‘Did it look good on the tele?
‘Hey, dad, only the second man in history to win the Ring Magazine belt twice – me and Muhammad Ali, not bad eh?
‘Go on then dad, I’ve got a million interviews. I’ll call you when I get back to the house. See you in a bit. Bye.’
Wilder has 30 days to exercise an option to have a third fight against Fury, though he may opt against doing so after being so comprehensively out-boxed, while most fight fans want to see a unification fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua.
