Two things Jose Mourinho did to Alexis Sanchez to provoke a reaction from him at Man Utd

Jose Mourinho is known as a controversial character in the press.

But his intriguing and perhaps slightly bizarre ways take centre-stage behind the scenes as well, according to reports.

Mourinho made it his mission to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal back in 2018 when he was at the reins at Manchester United.

The Chile international was widely regarded as world-class, and everyone foresaw him helping turn Manchester United back into title contenders.

But it wasn’t just the fact United were going to be signing a top player that attracted Mourinho.

It was the fact that they were stealing him from a rival in Arsenal and beating another rival in Manchester City to his signature that ticked all Mourinho’s boxes.

Man United put together the most expensive pay packet in the club’s history to attract the forward, which upset the other now ‘not so big earners’ at Old Trafford, including Paul Pogba and David de Gea.

But despite the fanfare surrounding the capture of Sanchez, things never worked out for the Chilean under Mourinho or new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Sanchez is now set to sign for Inter Milan on loan this summer, with the deal expected to be officially announced this Thursday.

Solskjaer played the Chilean a handful of times but was never under much pressure to make the transfer work.

Mourinho on the other hand defended Sanchez in the press amid the criticism that came his way, but was slightly different behind closed doors.

According to The Athletic, Mourinho would refer to Sanchez as ‘Chileno’ as a way to try and motivate him in training. He would also reportedly mention his astronomical wages in front of the other first team players.
