Two men charged over attempted robbery of Arsenal pair Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac

Two men have been charged following the attempted robbery of Arsenal pair Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac.

The Met Police stated on Tuesday evening that Ashley Smith, 30, and Jordan Northover, 26, were charged earlier this month following the incident in Platt’s Lane, Hampstead, in July.

The pair were attacked by knife-wielding motorbike riders; Kolasinac, standing outside the vehicle, chased the attackers away before Ozil, in the car with his wife, Amine, sought refuge in a local restaurant where the pair are well known.

Northover, of Walton, west Yorkshire, will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday via video link. He has been charged with attempted robbery and threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place.

Smith, of Cardinals Way, Archway, will next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on October 3 after being charged with attempted robbery, threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a class B drug.

Both players missed Arsenal’s start to the Premier League season following the incident.

Restaurant owner Yasmin Tahsimer revealed: “He called me while they were being chased and said ‘come out, call the police please’.

“When they were chasing Ozil’s car they were throwing big bricks at it and using a Long metal pole. They damaged the car. The wives were inside and were frightened and scared.

“We didn’t at first of all understand what was happening, then we saw the motorbike passing and realised it was serious.

Both have been in action for the Gunners since

“They has been chased for about 5 or 10mins around Golders Green and Hampstead. It was frightening. They were throwing bricks at the car and had. A big metal pole.

“It happened outside Sead’s house. He tried to defend himself. It was scary.

“Incredibly, despite what the players went through, Yasmin said they were very calm explaining: They weren’t shaken. They were fine. Sead is a hero.”
