What happens when you put a bunch of hot young people in a movie about hot vampires? They develop crushes on each other, of course.
Actor Ashley Greene, who portrayed Alice Cullen in the Twilight films, recently revealed that this once happened to her. On her podcast, The Twilight Effect, Greene said she had a crush on Jackson Rathbone, who played Jasper Hale, her onscreen love interest. Both Greene and Rathbone appeared in all five films in the Twilight Saga from 2008 to 2012: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn: Part 1, and Breaking Dawn: Part 2.
“I had a big old crush on Jackson Rathbone while we were filming,” Greene said in the latest episode of The Twilight Effect, which she hosts with her best friend Melanie Howe. On the podcast, which is published by Kast Media, Greene and Howe (a self-described Twilight superfan) break down every scene from the movies while Greene gives behind-the-scenes tea. The podcast also includes interviews with the cast, including Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen) and Peter Facinelli (Dr. Cullen).
“Our first encounter, I was like, This dude’s supercute and a Southern gentleman,” Greene recalled about her crush on Rathbone, per Insider. “I was like, Oh, okay, I’m into it,” she said. “He sings; he taught me how to swing-dance. And he’s supposed to be my lifetime love onscreen, and I was like, This is gonna be easy.”
Greene said Rathbone “had to have known about her romantic feelings,” and if he did know, he wasn’t interested in her. “I also hadn’t developed the skill set of creating onscreen chemistry and separating that,” Greene said, adding that this was a “harmless crush” that didn’t last throughout the entire Twilight Saga.
Don’t expect a reunion, though: Ashley Greene married entrepreneur Paul Khoury in 2018, and they are expecting their first child.
