They explained in a statement: “Due to the continued UK Foreign Office advice against all but essential travel to Spain and Portugal, TUI UK has extended holiday cancellations up to and including Friday 28 August 2020 for mainland Spain and Portugal and the Balearic and Canary Islands up to and including Sunday 23 August 2020.”

TUI previously cancelled holidays to Portugal until August 15.

This could be extended again depending on the travel advice, which is unlikely to change any time soon.

Customers who have holidays between August 23 and August 31, whose holidays have not been cancelled, can amend them for free, with a £500 incentive, or cancel them for a full refund.

Holidays to Morocco have been cancelled until September 11, while Cyprus holidays have been cancelled until August 23.

While Cyprus is not on the travel ban list, many tour operators are choosing to cancel holidays due to the strict entry requirements.

Anyone entering Cyprus from the UK must have a negative coronavirus test, taken no more than 72 hours before travelling.

Jet2 has already cancelled their holidays and flights to Cyprus until August 17 due to the restrictions.

TUI continued in their statement: “All affected customers will be able to amend their holiday for free and receive a booking incentive or cancel and receive a full cash refund.

“We know this is very disappointing for those looking forward to their well-deserved break. The health and safety of our customers and colleagues is always our highest priority.”

TUI is offering to cover all medical expenses and repatriation costs for Brits who test positive for coronavirus on holiday.

The tour operator will pay for any tests and health treatments, as well as any extended hotel stays enforced due to the virus.

The announcement is part of the holiday company’s Holiday Promise, which will only sell holidays without strict restrictions and changes for tourists.
