Tubi acquires streaming rights to The Joy of Painting

For those looking for a more heartwarming form of entertainment, they may want to look into subscribing to Fox-owned streaming service Tubi as they have acquired the streaming rights to the fan-favorite art series The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, according to Deadline.

In a new streaming deal with Cinedigm, the production company’s Docurama Channel on Tubi will feature 30 of the series’ 31 seasons by the end of the month, totaling nearly 400 episodes for audiences to stream, with only the first season currently absent. All seasons of the beloved series are currently available on YouTube, with Hulu and Amazon also having select seasons available for subscription streaming, and Cinedigm even created a whole streaming channel centered on the late host that first launched on Samsung smart-TVs earlier this year.

“The Joy of Painting has never been more popular, as evidenced by the ever-growing following and tremendous view count that Ross has garnered on social media platforms,” Erick Opeka, President of Cinedigm Digital Networks, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be working with Tubi to introduce new audiences to this iconic program.”

First launched in 1983, the series saw Ross and partners Annette and Walt Kowalski debut the series on public access television and run through 1984, featuring the simple setup of Ross taking viewers through the process of painting landscape scenes in a single locked-off shot and describing his color choices and brush strokes in a soothing and encouraging tone. It has garnered a large cult following in recent years as audiences have looked for more comforting programming.

Tubi has also announced an exclusive agreement with Foxtel, which will handle Australian sales of the service through 2022, seeing the streaming platform now operating in Australia, Mexico, the UK and Canada alongside the US.
