Trump accused of ‘dangling a carrot’ with trade deals

Experts today said Donald Trump is “dangling a carrot” of fast-tracked trade agreements after Brexit because he wants policy concessions from Britain.

The US national security adviser, John Bolton, used a visit to London to offer swift sectoral deals on trade.

Experts predicted that strings would be attached, such as British backing for US rejection of the Iran nuclear deal.

Simon Lowe, of the Centre for European Reform, told BBC Radio 4’s Today: “It could be seen as him dangling a  carrot in front of us when actually he just wants our support in other areas.”
