Troye Sivan has revealed he was fooled into contacting a
fake Greta Thunberg by the same Russian pranksters who managed to get Prince
Harry to fall for it too.

A phone conversation between Prince Harry and what he thought was Greta and her dad emerged at the start of March, but was actually Russian duo Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, also known as Vovan and Lexus.

Troye revealed he was also on the list of celebrities the
pair tried to dupe, telling his followers in a video posted to Twitter that his
manager Dani Russin was the one who took their initial call.

The singer revealed his manager had told him they’d got the ‘sickest
opportunity of our entire careers, thus far’.

When she asked him to guess who had called, he revealed ‘Not
trying to brag, but I was DMing Justin Bieber the day before about something
else.’

Now it wasn’t JB on the phone for Troye, but ‘Greta’s dad’, asking if he would be up for working on a project with her.

Alas, it wasn’t the real Greta Thunberg on the line (Picture: @gretathunberg)

Troye continued: ‘They said Greta is a huge fan and is working on this thing
called Stars Save the Earth.

‘My immediate reaction was, OK, maybe something didn’t translate into
English right, because that sounds kinda weird, we should workshop the name a
little bit.’

The list of things the fake Greta had planned included going swimming with sharks with Leonardo DiCaprio and saving animals in Africa with Prince Harry.

Of course Troye jumped at the chance to get involved in some
philanthropy with the young activist, and immediately dropped her a WhatsApp message
to say he was in.

However, this is where things fell apart for the ruse, as
Dani told her Swedish boyfriend about the chat with Greta’s dad, Svante,
mentioning that he didn’t speak very good English.

Dani’s boyfriend pointed out that Svante speaks good
English, and showed her video interviews of him, at which point alarm bells
began ringing as she realised the voice on the phone wasn’t his.

Luckily, Troye found the whole situation hilarious, adding: ‘I died laughing.
To me, this was the most hysterical thing.

‘And the fact that my ego was big enough to to be like, “Yeah, Greta Thunberg just wants to chill, she’s a big fan, we’re gonna save the planet together, it’s gonna be f**king sick”,  It completely mortified me.’
