Three men were fined for breaking lockdown after making a 300-mile round trip from London to Shropshire to ‘take a photograph of the view’.

Police said the trio had not even managed that after their phones died before they arrived at the beauty spot.

Instead, their ‘only souvenir’ from the trip ended up being a fixed penalty notice each.

The men were pulled over and questioned in Little Stretton, south Shropshire, telling officers they had driven from Kensington, west London.

South Shropshire police said on Twitter: ‘Three fixed penalty notices issued by Ludlow Response to males that have driven from Kensington to Little Stretton to take a photograph of the view.

‘No photographs were taken as their phone batteries had died, so the only souvenir of their 300 mile round trip will be the fines.’

Figures released last month showed that more than 42,000 fines have been handed out by police for breaches of Covid-19 laws since they came into force.

Data published by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) showed a total of 42,675 fixed penalty notices (FPNs) were issued by forces in England and Wales between March 27 last year and January 17.

Fixed penalty notices start at £200 in England and Northern Ireland.
