Treasure Island with Bear Grylls babe Elissa talks show 'fakery' rumours

Treasure Island with Bear Grylls star Elissa Corrigan has opened up about rumours parts of the Channel 4 show are “faked”.

The programme sees 12 contestants trying to survive on a desert island.

However, the show has been re-named this year as the participants all aim to win £100,000 hidden across the island too.

In the past, the TV hit has been accused of fakery – with some claiming that the water was supplied in the island by adding a rubber-lined pool and two caiman crocodiles were released on the island.

Grylls himself rejected the claims, saying it was necessary to make sure that there would be just enough resources to sustain the participants, and that caiman crocodiles were added to the island so that if the men or women were to kill them, the natural eco system would not be damaged.

And now show participant Elissa has also snubbed the claims.

When asked if there was any fakery going on, she exclusively told Daily Star Online: “Oh god no, they do not help you in any way.

“If you can’t survive, then you best get off the island.”

She added: “There are natural resources on island and you need to go and get it.

“If you just sat in camp you won’t eat.”

Elissa also said at certain points in the show she was “so weak” it took her ten minutes to stand up.

The stunning businesswoman is a vegan, however she said that all out the window on the show.

The 33-year-old told us: “I follow a plant-based diet at home but that’s purely for aesthetics because I want to look thin all the time.

“But you just couldn’t do that on the island because you would’ve starved to death. Elissa even admitted that the cast members kill a goat during their time on the programme.

Grylls has also disputed fakery claims

She confessed: “We also killed a goat while we were on the island, it wasn’t very nice to be honest because obviously we are used to seeing our meat packaged in a supermarket and not being killed in front of us.

“But Ivar did it and as he’s a farmer, he knew what he was doing so it was done as humanely as possible.

“None of the girls wanted to watch it happening but I did, it was educational. I was fascinated and horrified at the same time.”

Treasure Island with Bear Grylls airs on Channel 4 tonight at 9pm.
