Travel chaos as flights including BA and easyJet services in and out of Amsterdam Schiphol airport cancelled due to refuelling system fault


FLIGHTS in and out of one of Europe’s busiest airports have been grounded today because passenger planes cannot refuel ahead of take off.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport revealed a company which supplies fuel to the airport has a fault in their operating system causing major delays for dozens of flights.

“Aircraft Fuel Supply, a third-party company that controls aircraft fuel supply, currently has a fault in their system,” a spokesperson said.

“As a result, your flight may be delayed or cancelled. Together with Aircraft Fuel Supply, we we are working hard to find a solution.”

Dutch airline KLM added: “A large number of aircraft at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol cannot be refuelled, which is causing disruptions.”

It is offering passengers with tickets for today the chance to re-book free of charge for travel up to Tuesday July 30.

At least 50 planes could not be provided with the fuel they needed to depart.

Six British Airways’ flights to and from Amsterdam have been cancelled – one from each of Gatwick, Heathrow and London City.

The BA departures from London City to Amsterdam due out this afternoon have  been delayed by around two hours.

EasyJet scrapped one flight from Gatwick and the airline also cancelled flights from Liverpool, Stansted and Luton to Amsterdam.

Afternoon departures to Hong Kong and New York were shown as running three hours late.

 

Passenger Melanie Beiler tweeted: “They keep moving around planes to different gates, and apart from that, we get barely any information.”
