Transport Scotland relocates headquarters to 177 Bothwell Street

Transport Scotland is relocating its headquarters to 177 Bothwell Street in Glasgow.

Scotland’s national transport agency has secured 50,000 sq ft across two floors at the office block, reducing its office footprint from the 60,000 sq ft it currently occupies at Buchanan House.

The current lease at Buchanan House ends in November 2024 and the organisation will relocate after the lease expires.

The move has been made in part to support environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives.

The new office has its energy supplied by Blantyre Muir Wind Farm in South Lanarkshire, making it 100% renewable from an identified local source. Occupiers of 177 Bothwell Street benefit from the building’s energy efficiency, leading to lower overall operational costs.

The building also features 395 cycle spaces, along with several electric vehicle charging points.

Transport Scotland joins infrastructure consulting firm AECOM, property adviser CBRE and banking groups BNP Paribas and Virgin Money, among the confirmed office occupiers.

Avison Young advised Transport Scotland on the deal, while HFD was represented by 177 Bothwell Street’s joint agents Knight Frank and CBRE.

Hugh Gillies, interim chief executive at Transport Scotland, said: “It is important for Transport Scotland to follow the vision set out in the National Transport Strategy and 177 Bothwell Street has the environmental credentials needed to help us deliver our climate change ambitions and will further our work on reaching net zero.”

Stephen Lewis, managing director at HFD Property Group, added: “Transport will be a critical part of how we decarbonise Scotland’s economy – it seems fitting that we can announce Transport Scotland’s move to Glasgow’s most sustainable office building following COP26.”
