During an interview with GMB, the ex-model said the senior Tory MP helped her by hosting an event for her company at the Houses of Parliament.

But Mr Freeman said last night that he had only met Ms Arcuri twice, during the event and once beforehand to discuss it.

The minister said: “Five years ago as a backbencher focusing on technology issues, I hosted lots of events in Parliament on technology including one for Innotech, a technology policy campaign.

“With around 200 entrepreneurs at which I was a panellist along with a Labour Peer and Conservative Tech policy guru.

“As far as I was aware, it had nothing to do with the Mayor of London.

“I’ve never seen Jennifer Arcuri or had anything to do with her or Innotech since.”

A source close to Mr Freeman added that Ms Arcuri was “pretty brassy” and “a classic California tech PR sort”.

The source added: “You could see her coming a mile off really”.
