14:45 UPDATE: William Saliba transfer

Arsenal are set to complete the signing of William Saliba and the fee won’t eat into Unai Emery’s transfer budget.

The centre-back will join from Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne but it’s believed he will return to the club on loan.

It comes with Emery given a reported £45million budget for this summer’s transfer window.

But BBC report that Arsenal will pay for Saliba in instalments and it means that the reported £27m fee for the 18-year-old will not all leave the Emirates bank account this summer.

Arsenal have made just one signing so far this summer in the shape of young Brazilian striker Gabriel Martinelli.

Southampton wantaway Mario Lemina wants to stay in the Premier League.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester are linked with the midfielder, who is thought to be available for £18million.

And his latest interview with France Football will give the trio a greater hope of securing his signature.

“I did not join the players on the tour in agreement with the manager. He wants to build his squad with players who want to stay at the club, so he put me to one side,” Lemina said.

“I am not scared, I made a decision and I take full responsibility for it. I decided to tell the club representatives that I wanted to leave, there is no turning back.

“Certainly [my priority is to stay in the Premier League] it is an exceptionally interesting league. The best thing for me would be to stay here, but I don’t close the door on any club, or any country.”

14:15 UPDATE: Steve Bruce to Newcastle

Newcastle are ready to make an approach to Sheffield Wednesday as they attempt to appoint Steve Bruce as Rafael Benitez’s replacement.

The 58-year-old Owls boss is the man at the top of the Magpies’ shortlist and that formal contact is imminent, with the club due to embark on their Premier League Asia Trophy trip to China on Saturday.

It is understood they would have to pay compensation of around £1million to release the Corbridge-born former Manchester United defender from his current contract.

Some bookmakers suspended betting on Bruce’s appointment on Tuesday after a flurry of bets saw him installed as odds-on favourite to fill the vacancy at St James’ Park.

13:30 UPDATE: Frenkie de Jong dreamed of Arsenal

Frenkie de Jong thought he would follow in the footsteps of Marc Overmars by playing for Arsenal before joining Barcelona.

The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract at the Nou Camp after Barcelona paid Ajax £67million for his signature.

But he didn’t envisage it happening this way.

“In my mind I have had the following list for a long time: Ajax-Arsenal-Barcelona, call it the Marc Overmars route,” De Jong told Voetbal International.

“But then again, if you can go directly to Barcelona, then you are right where you want to be. Faster than you ever dared to dream.”

13:00 UPDATE: Done Deal – Wolves sign Dai

Wolves have announced the signing of midfielder Tsun Dai from Oxford.

The Hong Kong national, who spent the second half of last season on loan at FC Utrecht, put pen to paper on a two-year deal and has joined up with Rob Edwards’ under-23 squad.

Before signing his first professional contract with Bury in 2017, Dai developed his game with both Eastern Sports Club and Kitchee Sports Club prior to his move to England in 2012.

Dai’s time with the Shakers five years later saw him become the second Hong Kong national to feature in the English football league, after former Blackpool forward Cheung Chi Doy in 1960.

12:45 UPDATE: Mariano Diaz available

Unai Emery has reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is looking to strengthen several areas of his squad this summer but with an allocated £45million transfer budget he has been restricted as to which players he can target.

As a result Emery could be tempted by Real Madrid’s offer of Mariano Diaz, who they are willing to let leave Spanish capital for a reduced fee of just £18m.

Zinedine Zidane has been overseeing an overhaul of his squad as well this summer and has deemed Diaz surplus to requirements at the club.

11:45 UPDATE: Paul Pogba valuation

Real Madrid will need to break the Spanish transfer record to sign Manchester United star Paul Pogba.

That’s according to Marca, who claim Zinedine Zidane’s side will have to pay an astronomical £160million for the French midfielder.

The current highest transfer fee paid by a Spanish club remains Philippe Coutinho’s £130million move from Liverpool in January 2018.

But Pogba, who recently revealed his desire to find a new challenge elsewhere, could eclipse that if Real Madrid meet United’s valuation.

11:30 UPDATE: Arsenal hijack

Arsenal are hoping to hijack Everton’s move for Malcom.

Marco Silva’s Toffees are reported to have prepared a £31million bid for the Barcelona outcast.

However, Unai Emery thinks the Brazilian is the ideal alternative to £80m-rated Wilfried Zaha.

And The Sun claim the Gunners are trying to persuade Malcom behind the scenes to delay a move to Goodison Park while they negotiate a ‘staggered payment’ plan with Barcelona.

11:15 UPDATE: One position to fill…

Jurgen Klopp has not sanctioned any major transfer deals so far this summer but there is one area of his squad he could still look to do business.

The Reds have only signed teenage centre-back Sepp van den Berg for a fee potentially rising to £4.4million so far.

However, the Liverpool Echo insist a versatile forward remains a possibility.

They describe an addition in the position as being tentatively on the agenda although Liverpool are not after any particular targets as it stands.

In addition to Nicolas Pepe, the European champions have been linked with the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Memphis Depay and once again Nabil Fekir.
