Man Utd warned off transfer deal

Manchester United should not snap up wantaway Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen because he would not make them better.

That is the verdict of Red Devils legend Roy Keane, who has also taken a swipe at current United midfielder Fred.

“Not if I was the manager of Manchester United,” Keane said. “I think [Eriksen] will get a move on a free, but I don’t think he’d improve those teams.

“That’s the key for clubs like Man United trying to close that gap. He won’t make Manchester United better, but having said that Man United bought Fred.”

Celtic and Rangers sack claim

Celtic hero Chris Sutton believes Neil Lennon or Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be sacked if their team finishes second this season.

“Gerrard coming north is a big deal for the profile of Scottish football,” Sutton said. “It’s risen but ultimately he needs to win something.

“That’s the pressure of managing Celtic and Rangers. If I’m honest, the team that finishes second in the league… I don’t see their manager lasting to next season. It’s that big.”

Celtic are currently top of the Scottish Premiership, but only goal difference is keeping them above Old Firm rivals Rangers.

Unai Emery exit prediction

Arsenal icon Nigel Winterburn thinks time could be up for Unai Emery if the Gunners do not finish in the top four.

“All clubs are looking and analysing what’s happening at their club. I’ve always said that when Unai Emery came in he would get at least two years. Last year it wasn’t his team,” Winterburn told Gambling.com.

“Now he’s had significant funds this season to make those changes. He’s brought in younger players which I agree with. But I would think that if Arsenal don’t get into the top four there will be a review.

“They can’t get into the same position as with Arsene Wenger where 50 per cent of the supporters want him to stay and the other 50 per cent want him out and every time something goes wrong on the pitch it’s almost as if the supporters are in crisis with each other.”

Christian Eriksen to Real Madrid

Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen is still hoping to be scooped up by Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The former Ajax ace missed out on a move to the Bernabeu over the summer after Real raided Chelsea for Eden Hazard.

But that has not dampened his hopes of Madrid being his next destination, following a six-year stint at Tottenham.

According to The Independent, contract rebel Eriksen is dreaming of heading to Real when his time at Spurs eventually ends.

Liverpool in three-way battle

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal may be in for a three-way tussle over Borussia Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria.

Zakaria is on the wish lists of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund having impressed in Germany.

But they face the prospect of seeing three Premier League giants scrap it out for the midfielder if they do not act soon.

Harry Kane to leave Tottenham?

Tottenham need to start winning trophies or they could lose star striker Harry Kane, claims former Premier League striker Noel Whelan.

“The kid is just brilliant and that’s why Tottenham need to be wary as if they don’t produce this season or start winning some sort of silverware, them sort of players will be going,” Kane said.

“They may have just built a new stadium, Harry Kane is wanted by a lot of teams, it might not come out publicly, but Roy Keane said it ‘go get Kane’, he said it on Sky and he’s not joking.

“There are not many centre-forwards out there like Harry Kane, that can do what he can do.”

Man Utd boss praises Chelsea

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the way Chelsea’s loan system is now benefiting Frank Lampard.

“Frank has got players that have been on loan for one or two seasons in the Championship,” Solskjaer said.

“The difference between my youngsters is that they are almost stepping right now onto the scene.

“You can see, Axel Tuanzebe has missed the last couple of games for us, but because he has been out on loan you can see the benefit.

“Chelsea’s young players benefit from that now. They are a mature young team.”

Liverpool’s best signing

Liverpool assistant boss Pep Lijnders believes the Reds’ new elite development coach Vitor Matos is their best signing of the season.

“For me, he is our best signing this season,” said Lijnders. “He is a talented coach, a very intelligent coach. He can make the next step with all these young players.

“We have already seen the impact he has made on them. Having one really intelligent, talented coach for young players, he can inspire eight or nine of them – it’s really important to have the right people in front of them – he connects, he influences the boys on the pitch and trains with them.”

Matos joined Liverpool from Porto having been in charge of the Portuguese side’s second team.

Rangers transfer fee claim

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard insists the £7m the Ibrox club stumped up to sign Ryan Kent permanently has not gone to the winger’s head.

“He’s a confident boy,” Gerrard said. “You see the tattoos, you see the bowl [haircut].

“Ryan underneath it is just a nice guy. He’s a quite kid, quite reserved. But he’s a great kid, loves a little bit of banter.

“I don’t think the transfer fee has given him any more arrogance or swagger.

“But the transfer fee won’t be on his mind, won’t faze him. You saw it on Thursday night [against Porto], that’s his stage.”

Real Madrid told to offload Gareth Bale

Real Madrid should get rid of Gareth Bale if he is no longer committed to the club’s cause, claims former Los Blancos star Predrag Mijatovic.

“If a player of this salary is not motivated, it is better to leave for free and take the salary off,” Mijatovic said.

“It may be worth it to transfer him, even if it is not the money you might think you would get for him.

“If it is better to let it go free than to keep it? Without any doubt, I believe.”

Celtic exit talked up

Former Celtic manager John Barnes believes Odsonne Edouard is bound to want to leave the Hoops one day.

“Edouard’s a good young player, and as much as players might like playing for clubs like Celtic or Rangers, for their career they will want to move on,” Barnes said.

“Celtic will be open to sell for £20million to £30m.

“With the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Moussa Dembele staying at Celtic for a short while before moving on to bigger clubs, Edouard be given a similar opportunity next summer.”

Kurt Zouma’s Chelsea stay explained

Frank Lampard has revealed he kept Everton transfer target Kurt Zouma at Chelsea because he “believed” in the centre-back.

“There was a belief that I had in Kurt because there was interest in the summer after we all know he had a very good loan at Everton last year,” Lampard said.

“But I believed in him as I believed in Tomori – that is why I made the decisions I made pre-season in terms of where we were going to look defensively.

“It has been nice to get some stability, albeit because of injuries, between him and Fikayo in the last [few] games.”

Hint on Unai Emery’s Arsenal future

Unai Emery has dropped a clue he won’t be leaving Arsenal anytime soon by revealing he’s got the backing of Gunners chief Josh Kroenke.

“Sunday for example, after the match, Josh Kroenke was also in the dressing room speaking with me,” Emery said.

“We were speaking for 10 minutes about the situation but all the time helping each other.

“He’s supporting me, he’s supporting the players, we were talking about the circumstance with Granit Xhaka, saying that he was wrong and we need to manage that with him.”

Timo Werner fancies Liverpool switch

Liverpool target Timo Werner would be happy to swap RB Leipzig for the Reds, claims transfer expert Ian McGarry.

“Timo Werner is a target for Manchester United and Liverpool in the January window but it may be the summer before he actually makes the move,” McGarry told Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast.

“Raphael [Honigstein] told us that it was widely believed the player has a recision clause in his contract but no-one as of yet knows what it is.

“What we can tell you on the transfer window today is that Liverpool have begun the process of formal negotiations with RB Leipzig for the player’s transfer.

“We understand that contact has been made and indeed is ongoing between Liverpool and the German Bundesliga side and that Werner himself is keen for a move to Anfield.”

Man Utd vs Barcelona fight

Manchester United and Barcelona look set to scrap it out for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez, according to reports in his homeland.

Argentina international Martinez is on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hit list as he seeks to bolster United’s squad in the attacking department.

But Clarin Sports claim Barcelona are also in the mix for the former Racing Club hitman.

Barcelona are said to see Martinez as a potential replacement for Luis Suarez – meaning United may have to battle hard to get him on board.
