09.20 UPDATE: Liverpool should sign Zaha

John Aldridge has urged Liverpool to snap up Wilfried Zaha this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to add to his attack.

“Wilfried Zaha is the one I think he should go for,” he wrote in his Sunday World column.

“With Daniel Sturridge leaving the club and his huge wages coming off the weekly bill, it opens up the opportunity for Klopp to sign an out-and-out goalscorer who could offer something different if one of the front three is injured or out of form.

“Zaha has given Liverpool some real problems in the last couple of years and Klopp’s ability to turn talents of his type into consistent performers has to make him the kind of player who could thrive at Anfield.”

08.45 UPDATE: Aldridge thinks Coutinho return is a mistake

John Aldridge has told Liverpool to forget signing Philippe Coutinho back from Barcelona.

Coutinho has been linked with a move away from Barcelona after struggling over 18 months in Spain, but Aldridge thinks it would be a mistake to bring him back.

“Coutinho left on a sour note as he forced his way out of the club and while he is a great player, I don’t think Liverpool should blow their transfer budget on bringing him back,” Aldridge wrote for the Sunday World.

“None of us have forgotten that Coutinho left Liverpool in a difficult position when he jumped ship mid-way through the season, so we should not give him a simple route back to play for the European champions.

“We all trust Klopp in whatever decisions he makes, but I think adding attacking a top quality attacking option would be the way forward this summer.”

“I don’t know what will happen, but it’s always a source of happiness to speak about playing with him.

“He’s a player of another dimension and very important to any team he’s on.

“Nobody can deny his qualities and his massive talent, and we all know that.

07.00 UPDATE: Maguire makes decision

Harry Maguire is set to join Manchester City this week after turning down Manchester United.

Maguire will join City for £80m and will replace Vincent Kompany in the heart of Pep Guardiola’s defence.

He will battle John Stones and Aymeric Laporte for a starting spot and will become the most expensive centre back in history.

Maguire was on United’s radar but has chosen to join City.

06.45 UPDATE: Arsenal make Tierney decision

Arsenal do not want to get into a bidding war over Kieran Tierney.

The Celtic ace is their top target and they have seen a £15m bid rejected, but have made a second offer.

Celtic want upwards of £25m for Tierney but Arsenal are working with a reduced transfer budget of around £45m due to missing out on the Champions League so may have to sell before splashing out on the Scottish international.

Emery is desperate to overhaul his defence and Tierney would replace Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac at left back.
