Everton manager wish list

Everton have got five candidates on their shortlist to replace the sacked Marco Silva at the helm at Goodison Park.

Top of the list are Shanghai SIPG gaffer Vitor Pereira and former Toffees manager David Moyes.

The Mirror claim Leonardo Jardim – currently in charge of Monaco – is also being eyed by Farhad Moshiri and co.

Everton likewise like the look of Erik ten Hag of Ajax, while RB Leipzig chief Ralf Rangnick is an option as well.

Man Utd boss’ preference

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would sooner play Axel Tuanzebe than give Chris Smalling another chance at Old Trafford.

Smalling was packed off to Roma in August following United’s mega-money signing of fellow centre-back Harry Maguire from Leicester.

He has since opened up about returning to United when his loan spell ends, while Solskjaer admitted he expects to see the former Fulham defender again.

However, the Sunday People report Solskjaer is a bigger fan of Tuanzebe now and that might mean Smalling’s opportunities are severely limited.

Man City secret deal

Manchester City are in the market for a new defender despite Pep Guardiola’s claims to the contrary ahead of the January window.

Guardiola claimed just last week that City would not be making the plunge to help solve their centre-back crisis.

However, The Athletic report several sources have told them City are assessing their options and an offer could be slapped in.

City bought Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018 and a similar deal for a defender could be in the works.

Arsenal next manager latest

Arsenal hero Patrick Vieira admits he has plenty of fond thoughts of the Gunners admit talk he could be Unai Emery’s replacement.

The Nice gaffer enjoyed a stellar playing stint in north London and, while he’s content in France, he could head back to the UK.

“You can never ignore a club where you’ve spent nine years,” Vieira told Canal+. “But, honestly, I’m focused on this project at Nice, I feel very good here. It’s a very exciting project.

“I’ve always said that I’m very happy in Nice. We’re all working to move the club forward and there is potential.”

Chelsea boss speaks out

Frank Lampard wants Chelsea to give him the funds recouped from player sales to help bolster his Blues squad.

“Part of my job here is to push for the best here and when when you’re going into the market, with the level of the player we have here, you only bring in someone if they’re better than what you’ve got,” Lampard told BT Sport.

“Sometimes you’ve got to pay for that seriously and we did bring in some money this summer so those conversations will be had.”

Lampard can sign players in January after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) saw their transfer ban cut in half.

Arsenal set Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang price

Arsenal might be willing to part ways with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if they can recoup the £60m they splashed out on him last January.

The Sun claim the Gabon international has ended talks over extending his stay at the Emirates because he doesn’t feel they’re going places.

And, with a move to Real Madrid on his mind, Arsenal chiefs are said to be mulling over how much they’d sell him for.

Arsenal handed Borussia Dortmund a whopping £60m for Aubameyang almost two years ago and they’d like to recover as much of that fee as possible.

Everton next manager update

Everton chiefs are ready to let Duncan Ferguson lead the Toffees against Manchester United as they seek out Marco Silva’s permanent successor.

Farhad Moshiri and the rest of the Everton board had been hoping to find a new manager as soon as possible following Silva’s dismissal.

However, last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Chelsea has provided them with a bit of time to think on the appointment.

The Mirror reckon that means Ferguson is likely to be in charge of Everton when they visit Old Trafford on Sunday.

Man Utd legend’s Anthony Martial verdict

Manchester United hero Gary Neville believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. kept hold of Anthony Martial over fears they could rue selling the forward.

“Myself, I’m confused as to whether he’s a world-class striker or whether he’s someone who is going to pretend to be something,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“Even today you look at him you think he’s a fantastic player, great composure, cool, strong, can hold the ball up.

“And then other weeks you look at him… there’s definitely a persistence that needs to occur with Martial in the sense that he has to have his chance.

“Because the idea of selling him and then him coming back to bite you which he could do with his talent is something that you can’t risk.

“And that’s the reason why the club have kept him and now Ole is giving him his opportunity.”

Celtic win hailed

Moussa Dembele might have left Celtic in acrimonious circumstances but he’s clearly still a fan of the Glasgow giants.

Celtic overcame Old Firm rivals Rangers on Sunday to scoop the Scottish League Cup trophy at Hampden Park.

Dembele reacted to their victory on Twitter with a series of crying laughing emojis in an attempt to troll Rangers.

Dembele’s transfer from Celtic to Lyon last year came after he forced a move but it’s safe to say he remains fond of his former side.

Liverpool star opens up

Liverpool midfielder James Milner admits he’d love to play for boyhood club Leeds again in the future.

Milner told The Sportsman: “Well yes, but I am a Leeds lad and I want the team to do well, I’m a fan. I always follow the team and the results. So you can never say No or even Yes because just so much changes in football, you never know what happens.

“At the moment I’m a Champions League winner with Liverpool and this year we’re really going for the Premier League, but I don’t know what the future will hold.

“It would be amazing to play for Leeds again but no one from the club has ever contacted me about that.

“People talk about my age and that I’m getting on, and could I continue after Liverpool, but I don’t think I’m typical physically for my age.”

Barcelona to Man Utd boost

Manchester United have been handed reason to believe they could land Arturo Vidal from Barcelona during the winter transfer market.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has admitted that while he’s “happy” with the Chilean, a January exit might be on the cards.

“Vidal is our player,” Valverde said. “We are happy with him. There are so many rumours. We will see tomorrow if he plays or not.

“And when the January transfer window arrives, we will see what happens. There’s a lot of things going on in January but it’s true that we have a lot of midfielders. Some have played more than others but all of them are needed.”

Tottenham scout Edin Dzeko

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has ordered club personnel to take a look at Roma striker Edin Dzeko ahead of the January transfer window.

The Sunday Mirror report the new Spurs supremo wants to land a forward who can act as backup to Tottenham hotshot Harry Kane.

Dzeko is in the frame for the role having continued the prolific form he’s enjoyed throughout his career while plying his trade in Italy.

Tottenham currently only have Troy Parrott who can come in for Kane as a like-for-like replacement at the top of their attack.

Real Madrid exit planned

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez would rather join Manchester United than Wolves if he’s to head to the Premier League.

The Colombian returned to the Bernabeu over the summer after his two-year loan spell with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich came to an end.

He’s already said to be planning his next move, though, with El Desmarque reporting Old Trafford is in his sights.

They claim Rodriguez would sooner sign for United than Wolves because he believes the Red Devils will finish higher in the Premier League.

Arsenal and Chelsea want Wilfried Zaha

Arsenal are poised to reignite their interest in Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha in time for the upcoming transfer window.

Express Sport understands the Gunners are expected to go toe-to-toe with London rivals Chelsea for the former Manchester United flop.

Arsenal looked at landing Zaha over the summer before they convinced Lille to part ways with the then in-demand Nicolas Pepe.

However, he might still end up at the Emirates with Arsenal hoping to beat Chelsea to the twinkle-toed ace.
