Transfer deadline day times and dates: Premier League, Championship, EFL, Scotland, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga

It’s matchweek one in the English Premier League but before any ball is kicked the 20 teams will be looking to improve their squads ahead of the close of the transfer window.

Deadline day is on Thursday 8 August and clubs need to confirm their new arrivals before 5pm that day. However, they can still sell players to clubs in leagues where the window remains open.

The biggest transfer outlay so far by a Premier League side is the reported £80m Manchester United have paid Leicester City for defender Harry Maguire. Arsenal have also spent big with £72m on Nicolas Pepe from Lille.

The biggest sale was £88.5m plus add-ons for Eden Hazard, who left Chelsea for Real Madrid.

The Guardian reports that as of 5 August clubs in the top five European leagues have completed 1,286 deals worth £4.22bn.

Once the deadline is passed it’s time for the on-pitch action with the opening round of matches. The Premier League season kicks off with a clash between Liverpool and Norwich City on Friday 9 August (8pm, live on Sky Sports).
