Manchester United are at Prenton Park this afternoon to take on Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup fourth round, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to find a much-needed boost for his side.

Solskjaer’s side are desperate to avoid another defeat after their dire 2-0 loss against Burnley, their first to the Clarets at Old Trafford since 1962, which has brought the manager under severe scrutiny.

Tranmere are 60 rungs below United in the football pyramid and have won only once in their last 10 League One games, but they beat Watford 2-1 to reach this stage of the competition and will be hoping to force another upset. Follow all the action below:

Tranmere 0-6 Manchester United

89 min: Man of the match? Jesse Lingard gets the award.

Tranmere 0-6 Manchester United

86 min: Crossbar! Chong lashes a shot from the left side of the box, connecting sweetly and ratting the woodwork.

Tranmere 0-6 Manchester United

84 min: Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, the Aston Villa loanee, has come on and injected some energy into Tranmere’s play. He goes close with a shot and then pinches the ball high up the pitch to create another chance, but it just doesn’t look like being a day when they make a breakthrough.

Tranmere 0-6 Manchester United

76 min: Lingard goes close, flashing a shot against the outside of the post.

Tranmere 0-6 Manchester United

74 min: This game has still got some tempo to it but mistakes are creeping in to United’s game, and the pitch is getting progressively worse.

What a talent this boy is…

Tranmere 0-6 Manchester United

64 min: Harry Maguire is replaced by Brandon Williams. David Perkins is replaced by Harvey Gilmour for Tranmere.

A reminder that Shrewsbury vs Liverpool kicks off at 5pm GMT, and we’ll have live coverage of that game on the website, too.

GOAL!

GOAL! Tranmere 0-6 Manchester United (Greenwood, pen)

56 min: Greenwood sends Davies left and rolls it to the right. He’s deserved his goal.

Penalty to United! Chong is chopped down by goalkeeper Scott Davies and it’s a simple decision by Lee Mason. Davies will not face Mason Greenwood from the spot…

Tranmere 0-5 Manchester United

54 min: Andreas Pereira smashes the ball off the pitch while attempting a flashy pass. It’s very possible United’s standards are slipping slightly.

Tranmere 0-5 Manchester United

49 min: United are looking slick and want more goals here. This could be a torturous 45 minutes for the hosts.

Kick-off

They are back under way at Preston Park, and United are quickly on the ball and on the attack, which ends with Diogo Dalot spooning a shot high over the bar.

Two changes for United at the break. Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic are given a rest; Tahith Chong and Fred are giving a run out.

GOAL!

GOAL! Tranmere 0-5 Manchester United (Martial)

45 min: Anthony Martial is finally in on the act. This one gets a deflection and you have to feel a little sorry for Davies in goal. Five shots on target, five goals.

GOAL!

GOAL! Tranmere 0-4 Manchester United (Jones)

41 min: Phil Jones pops up at the back post at a corner to score a brilliant header. That is a fine finish and it brings a rare smile from Jones, which is nice to see. Three defenders on the scoresheet and a midfielder who almost never scores goals. It will be Romero next.

Tranmere 0-3 Manchester United

35 min: Martial wants a penalty for a shoulder barge. In fairness to the Frenchman, there wasn’t much ball involved in the challenge, but referee Lee Mason isn’t interested.

Here’s that Harry Maguire goal:

Tranmere 0-3 Manchester United

31 min: A lull, as if the game is adjusting to the huge and sudden shift in scoreline. United are happy to pass the ball around but Tranmere are still trying to be incisive when they get it. They are having most joy down the left with Ferrier, but haven’t been able to create anything to test Romero.

Tranmere 0-3 Manchester United

27 min: United are knocking the ball around confidently. This is a difficult period for Tranmere, and they need to dig in for a few minutes and try to stem the flow.
