The role of tourism is often underestimated – although tourism creates 10 per cent of jobs worldwide and continues to offer great potential for decent work.
Experts agree that policy measures and new innovative concepts are needed to help boost tourism’s potential in this context. The creation of jobs for women and young people, in particular, is a key objective.
In 2019, in line with UNWTO’s overall focus on skills, education and employment, World Tourism Day which took place on September 27th this year, started a year-round celebration on “Tourism and jobs: a better future for all”.
