Manchester United star Anthony Martial has ‘no doubts’ that Tottenham will ‘climb the table’ under Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is preparing to return to Old Trafford for the first time as an opposition manager since being sacked by United last December and the 56-year-old will be looking to make it four wins from his opening four matches at Spurs.

After a miserable start to the season under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham have beaten West Ham and Bournemouth either side of a thrilling victory over Olympiakos in the Champions League.

Martial would have been desperate to come against his old boss on Wednesday night but the Frenchman is reportedly set to miss the clash with a muscular problem.

Despite having his differences with Mourinho at United, Martial has backed the Portuguese to lead Spurs back towards the top of the Premier League table.

Asked about Tottenham’s disappointing start to the campaign, Martial told United’s official website: ‘Yes, I have been surprised

‘They had a good season last time around and managed to make it to the Champions League final, so I was expecting them to be doing better.

‘But I’m sure they will manage to bounce back and climb up the table.

‘I have no doubts that they will because they have a good side with some great players.’

Martial has warned Spurs about the ‘unbelievable’ pace of Daniel James, a player he had never even heard over before the summer.

‘He’s a player who is blessed with incredible pace. He really is unbelievably fast and yet he is also someone who is able to choose the right option,’ Martial said.

‘In spite of all that pace, he doesn’t lose control, he keeps his head and then often manages to make the right choice.

‘That’s a big plus for a forward player as that way he can make assists for us all.

‘He really is a top player and someone I wasn’t aware of before, so quite honestly, that makes him a great addition.’

Marcus Rashford has been in sublime goalscoring form for United and Martial says his team-mate has brought a ‘new dimension’ to his performances this season.

‘For me, Marcus is quite a complete player,’ Martial said.

‘He is young but he’s a guy with a lot of experience because he started out so young.

‘I think right now he is bringing a whole new dimension to his game.

‘I hope he’ll keep going like that because that will help us a lot to improve and assist the team in general.’
