Tottenham vs Man City LIVE: Stream, team news, goals, latest news updates from Champions League quarter-final

Follow the latest updates live from the Champions League quarter-final first leg between Spurs and Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Ground.

The all-Premier League affair guarantees that the four remaining English clubs in Europe will be whittled down to three at the very least, with Manchester United and Liverpool also looking to progress to the semi-finals. But for Spurs, tonight’s clash will be the biggest match they have staged inside their new stadium since opening its doors last week, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side taking on familiar opponents.

City are still looking to claim an historic quadruple – or quintuple as Pep Guardiola put it on Monday – and the Champions League looks set to be the toughest challenge of all. In what will be the first of three consecutive matches against Spurs, City will be looking to claim any away goal advantage they can to take back to the Etihad for next Wednesday’s second leg. Follow the live action below.

Team news

Manchester City: Despite an injury concern Sergio Aguero starts for the Premier League Champions. Fabian Delph makes the starting XI, whilst Kevin De Bruyne is on the bench.

BREAKING NEWS

Team news for Man City!

Speaking of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, take a look inside the home dressing room which is designed to match the facilities at Tottenham’s Enfield Training Centre.

For the comfort of the players, of course.

Asked whether the new stadium would have an adverse affect of his team Pep Guardiola was non-plussed about the issue:

“The stadium is what it is, the supporters support the team more than ever in the Champions League.

“It’s up to us how we handle it. We have to know how to handle the situations, if we don’t that’s because we are not prepared to go through.”

While Tottenham have to look back to April 1973 for their last all English Euro tie, where they were defeated in the UEFA Cup semi-final by Liverpool, Manchester City only have to think back to this stage last season.

They drew Liverpool and as with tonight’s fixture went into the match as favourites to progress. However three quickfire goals at Anfield saw them slump to defeat and a further loss at the Etihad in the return leg put the curtain over their Champions League campaign.

Those memories will no doubt be in the minds of Pep Guardiola and his men as they make the trip to the £1 billion Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the hopes of a different outcome this time around.

As Spurs ready themselves for their first all English clash in Europe for 46 years, manager Mauricio Pochettino has been lamenting about one of his “most important matches as a coach”.

He said: “To play in the Champions League quarter-finals is a massive bonus for us,

“We know it’s going to be very tough. Manchester City in the last few years have been building to win everything,

“If one team is capable of winning everything it is Manchester City today,

“I think they know and he [Guardiola] knows that we are brave playing football, going forward, being aggressive and trying to be protagonists.

“We are going to be aggressive and try to play and beat them.”

The question for Spurs over the next eight days is very much one of fulfilling potential, in that they must prove they are ready to take the next step in Europe in a quest to join the elite.

Predicted line-ups

Tottenham: Lloris, Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Dier, Sissoko, Son, Eriksen, Alli, Kane

Manchester City: Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Mendy, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Silva, Silva, Sterling, Aguero

Odds

Tottenham: 10/3

Draw: 3/1

Manchester City: 20/23

Prediction

City will try to dominate the ball, and will almost certainly succeed, leaving Spurs to try and make hay on the counter, which against the likes of Nicolas Otamendi might not be the worst thing.

The return of Kevin De Bruyne makes City a more direct threat as his near-perfect assist for Gabriel Jesus in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final win over Brighton showed.

Speaking of Jesus, the choice over whether to risk Sergio Aguero will loom large also and will likely have a sizeable bearing on how this first leg plays out.

Expect both teams to score in an open game with the visitors heading back to the Etihad with what could prove the crucial away goal

Tottenham 1-1 Manchester City
