Tottenham vs Bayern Munich LIVE: Score, Champions League goals, fixtures and updates

TOTTENHAM 1-2 BAYERN MUNICH | SON (12), KIMMICH (15), LEWANDOWSKI (45)

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Winks, Ndombele, Sissoko, Dele, Son, Kane

Bayern Munich XI: Neuer, Pavard, Suele, Boateng, Alaba, Kimmich, Tolisso, Gnabry, Coutinho, Coman, Lewandowski

  • Dele Alli replaces Christian Eriksen in the Tottenhams tarting XI
  • Former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho starts for Bayern Munich
  • Son opens the scoring inside 12 minutes with clinical first-time finish
  • Joshua Kimmich levels three minutes later for Bayern Munich with long-range effort
  • Robert Lewandowski gives Bayern Munich the lead just before the break

TOTTENHAM 1-2 BAYERN MUNICH

HT: Nightmare time to concede for Spurs. Mauricio Pochettino’s side trail at the break having taken the lead after just 12 minutes.

TOTTENHAM 1-2 BAYERN MUNICH | LEWANDOWSKI

45: GOAL! He’s just lethal, isn’t he. Robert Lewandowski completes the turnaround on the stroke of half-time with a sensational goal.

The Poland hitman starts the move with a ridiculous flick over Jan Vertonghen’s head. Spurs half clear it but it falls to the feet of Lewandowski, who places it beautifully past Hugo Lloris.

43: Ouch! Tanguy Ndombele is booked when sliding in on Philippe Coutinho. He did win the ball but that doesn’t seem to matter these days. Anyway, looks like Robert Lewandowski will take this one.

He steps up… rubbish. Why doesn’t Coutinho take the free-kicks?!

40: Lots of huffing and puffing from both sides but not a great deal of quality in the final third. And Serge Aurier proves my point perfectly when thumping an attempted cross into orbit.

38: You’re certainly tuned into the most exciting Champions League games tonight. There’s only one goal in the other five fixtures and that was scored by Gonzalo Higuain for Juventus against Leverkusen.

35: Brave defending from Jan Vertonghen when rising with Robert Lewandowski to clear a cross from the left. The Poland international doesn’t back down and looks to have clashed heads with Jan. Don’t worry, both back on their feet again now.

33: Barely seen anything of Bayern Munich in an attacking sense since their equaliser. It’s ALL Tottenham at the minute with Son sending his fourth effort of the evening wide from an acute angle.

30: Danger! Kane standing over a free-kick, slightly left of centre. He steps up… high and wide. He covers his face with his hands as if it was close. Not buying that I’m afraid, Harry.

28: Save! Everyone’s expecting the net to ripple when Ndombele strides onto a cutback from Aurier. He’s alone, unmarked and side foots it too gently at Neuer from eight yards out.

25: Spurs fans enjoyed that. Ex-Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry fouls Harry Winks in the middle of the park and he’s shown a yellow card.

22: Philippe Coutinho attempts a… Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian loanee collects a clearance before shifting the ball to his right and curling an effort on target. Lloris is behind it.

21: There were just 194 seconds between Son Heung-Min’s opener for Tottenham Hotspur and Joshua Kimmich equalising for Bayern Munich.

18: Son cuts inside on his right and tries to pick out the bottom corner but it’s easy for Neuer to gather.

TOTTENHAM 1-1 BAYERN MUNICH | KIMMICH

15: GOAL! Well… that’s what you call an instant response. Spurs’ lead lasted just three minutes with Joshua Kimmich levelling things up.

Jan Vertonghen’s poor clearance lands at Kimmich’s feet and he’s given time, space and opportunity to pick his spot and arrow a long-ranger past Hugo Lloris. Rocket.

TOTTENHAM 1-0 BAYERN MUNICH | SON

12: GOAL! Bayern Munich had two warnings about Son… they didn’t receive a third as the Tottenham star gives his side the lead.

No idea what the Bundesliga champions are doing at the back with Sule playing everyone onside. Moussa Sissoko slides it in for Son, who opens his body and fires across the helpless Manuel Neuer.

10: Uh-oh! Serge Aurier leaves Alaba in a heap on the deck having stamped on his stomach. It didn’t look intentional as he was trying to leap over him – but what an unnecessary rick to take – especially after being sent off on Saturday.

Save! Ndombele’s vision is superb. Again he spots Son in space and threads it over to the South Korean, who curls it straight into Neuer’s arms.

7: It’s a really open start to this one. Not many chances but plenty of ‘openings’ for both sides. I can see goals this evening.

And just as I write that – Spurs should have taken the lead. Ndombele plays a sublime diagonal pass through to Son, who isn’t cute enough with his finish and blasts it straight at Neuer.

4: Save! Serge Gnabry has already started terrorising the Tottenham defence. He’s easily found with a ball straight over the top before Toby Alderweireld loses his footing. Hugo Loris parries it to safety.

3: Would it interest you to know that we have a rarity tonight in that both goalkeepers are World Cup winners AND captains? Me neither. Thought you should know.

It’s absolutely pelting it down in north London. Slippery surface is good for free-flowing football – it’s also good for producing a howler of some kind. Beware.

TOTTENHAM 0-0 BAYERN MUNICH

1: And we’re underway at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium! Big night for Spurs, huge. It’s hard to calculate exactly what a win over the Bundesliga champions would do for confidence and morale around north London.

FT: Real Madrid 2-2 Club Brugge

19:50: What an entertaining match. I mean, it’s probably killed many coupons but a really good watch. Zinedine Zidane’s side respond to their 3-0 dubbing against PSG with a 2-2 draw at home to the Belgian visitors. I guess in some ways that’s an improvement…

Oh, and Shakhtar Donetsk have beaten Atalanta 2-1 on their own patch with a 94th-minute winner.

Final ten

19:45: Well… Real Madrid scored to make it 2-1… and they’ve done very little since. They have been handed a lifeline with Club Brugge’s captain sent off for a second yellow. Looked to have won the ball but it’s been considered reckless.

Ah… and as I write this update, Casemiro levels. It’s now 2-2 with eight minutes or so remaining.

The visitors

19:40: It will be a case of what might have been for Spurs as Philippe Coutinho lines up against them for Bayern.

Tottenham were fleeting suitors of the Brazil international during the summer transfer window but the former Liverpool man did not want to play for another Premier League club.

Coutinho is leading a new era at Bayern, following the departures of Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Mats Hummels.

Coutinho was joined by Ivan Perisic (flu) and Lucas Hernandez (knee) in joining the German side this summer and they have both been passed fit for the game.

Twitter round-up

Chris: Really looking forward to tonight’s test against Bayern, especially after everything the team has been through recently. A win tonight would be massive! COME ON YOU SPURS!!

Chripie: Not feeling so great, bit queasy & got the shivers. Mentioned it to my Dad & he said there’s nothing wrong with me, apparently I’m just suffering from ‘Spurs match imminence’.

Brian: Massive game today to prove we can do this. Hopefully push on from Southampton gritty winning performance and show it was just a blip and we can push on and still have a cracking season.

The comeback?

19:20: Not quite sure how, but Sergio Ramos has pulled one back for Real Madrid. The defender looks offside to the naked eye but a quick VAR check says he was on. It’s 2-1 with just under 30 minutes left on the clock.

Sergio Ramos has scored in a 10th different season in the Champions League, becoming just the second defender to do so in the competition after Gerard Pique (also 10).

Some pub ammunition for you.

Positive light

19:15: Bayern Munich head coach Niko Kovac believes Tottenham’s development under Mauricio Pochettino has made them a “positive light” of European football.

Pochettino has turned them from Europa League also-rans into European Cup finalists and that has not gone unnoticed by the Croatian, who admits coming to watch a Spurs game three years ago.

“It is a very, very positive development,” the Croatian said. “In 2016 I was here and they were in the old stadium, I was here to watch Tottenham against Swansea, the flair was different, the stadium was smaller, but the atmosphere was strong.

“You can see what it means when you have a good coach, a good manager. In my opinion Tottenham have a very positive light in European football, they are now able to compete with the very big teams, even if it didn’t look that way seven or eight years ago.”

Real-ly lost it

19:10: All very strange at the Bernabeu.

Put your Football Manager hat on for me please. Real Madrid are losing 2-0 to Club Brugge and Zinedine Zidane has brought on goalkeeper Alphonse Areola for Thibaut Courtois…

I don’t think he was injured! Marcelo is also on for Nacho. Still trailing.

Team news – Spurs

19:05: Just the one change for Tottenham from the side who beat Southampton on Saturday. Dele Alli, who makes just his third start for Spurs this season replaces Christian Eriksen. The Dane is benched again.

Team news – Bayern

19:00: Love that picture of Philippe Coutinho. Looks like a disgruntled Thomas Cook passenger…

Anyway, the Brazilian playmaker starts for Bayern Munich this evening – playing alongside for Arsenal forward Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and legend Robert Lewandowski.

They may be without Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben these days – but make no mistake – they are a serious threat.

Starting XI

18:55: Spurs announce their line up for tonight’s clash. Very few surprises other than Dele Alli returning to the side.

Tottenham XI: Lloris (C), Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Winks, Ndombele, Sissoko, Dele, Son, Kane.

Subs: Gazzaniga, Dier, Sanchez, Davies, Eriksen, Lamela, Lucas.

Bayern Munich XI: Neuer, Pavard, Suele, Boateng, Alaba, Kimmich, Tolisso, Gnabry, Coutinho, Coman, Lewandowski.

Subs: Ulreich, Thiago, Martinez, Cuisance, Perisic, Davies, Mueller.

Some good news…

18:50: Tottenham defender Jan Vertongen has hinted he could sign a new contract and says he is “feeling great in every single way”.

The 32-year-old is in the final year of his current deal and is yet to agree fresh terms, despite saying in the past he would be keen to stay at Spurs.

Vertonghen, speaking on the eve of his side’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, was coy when asked whether he was in negotiations with the club, only revealing that there was “some movement”.

“I would prefer not to go too deep into that (contract talks), but there is always some movement,” the Belgium defender said.

“It is my eighth season here, I have had a great past and I am feeling great at the moment in every single way here, that is all I want to say about that.”

What is happening?!

18:45: Ok, we knew Real Madrid weren’t great at the minute – but this is a real shocker.

They are currently losing 2-0 to Club Brugge at the Bernabeu after 41 minutes. They look pedestrian, Eden Hazard looks a shadow of himself and Karim Benzema still hasn’t scored to save my accumulator!

Who predicted Real Madrid to win the Champions League? Oh right – that was me…

Lovely London…

18:40: London is a place the Bundesliga champions enjoy playing. Admittedly that’s mostly thanks to Arsenal…

Bayern were paired with the Gunners for four seasons out of five between 2013 and 2017 and knocked the Gunners out three times – with the fourth set of games taking place in the group stage.

They recorded 2-0, 3-1 and 5-1 wins at the Emirates, while they also won their fifth Champions League title across town at Wembley in 2013.

Who knows, maybe it was Arsene Wenger and NOT London…

Spurs face Bayern battle

18:35: Tottenham need a good result after they failed to hold onto a 2-0 lead against Olympiakos on match day one.

However, that may be a tough as the visitors are Bayern Munich.

There is no recent history between the two but if there are any omens their last meeting came in 1983 when Spurs won 2-0 to overturn a 1-0 first-leg defeat on their way to winning the UEFA Cup that season.

However, the Bundesliga giants have dropped just four points in the league this season courtesy of two draws; by contrast the hosts’ form is worse than patchy with just three wins in nine matches in all competitions.

Evening…

18:30: Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Champions League.

What a barnstormer (do people still use that word?) we have ahead of us this evening as German champions Bayern Munich take on Tottenham in the capital.

The action is already underway in the group stages with Real Madrid trailing Club Brugge at the Bernabeu and Atlanta beating Shakhtar Donetsk by a single goal.

Team news and line-ups dropping shortly. Standby…

TOTTENHAM vs BAYERN MUNICH – TEAM NEWS

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has an almost fully-fit squad to select from when Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich visit north London this evening.

Bayern currently top Group B following their comfortable win over Red Star Belgrade in the opening round of matches, two points ahead of Spurs who could only manage a draw at Olympiakos.

Tottenham squandered a two-goal lead in Greece and have since suffered defeats to Leicester in the Premier League and Colchester United in the Carabao Cup after a penalty shootout.

The home side remain without Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso due to hamstring and hip problems respectively, but Son Heung-min is expected to be fit to face the Bavarian outfit.

Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela are all options off the bench while neither Eric Dier not Victor Wanyama are expected to feature.
