Tottenham chief Daniel Levy was dealt some transfer revenge at the hands of Inter Milan, who denied their attempts to land Christian Eriksen back on loan. The Denmark international signed from Spurs last January but it was no easy task.
Inter Milan sought ‘transfer revenge’ over Tottenham when they made life difficult for them trying to sign Eriksen in January.
The Denmark international was one of many players available over the winter transfer window.
Antonio Conte had struggled to include him in his various squads throughout the season as they chase down the Serie A title.
It meant Eriksen was largely sidelined and a move away until the end of the campaign looked on the cards after they made him available for loan.
Several clubs were interested in the Middelfart-born star, including Paris St-Germain, Manchester United, Leicester and Tottenham.
Despite letting him leave 12 months ago, Spurs were happy to see Eriksen return.
But according to CalcioMercato via Sport Witness, Inter Milan made negotiations particularly difficult for the north London club to get back at Levy.
The Spurs chief was not willing to budge on his asking price when the San Siro club came calling last January when Eriksen was a top target.
Eventually, they got their man but only after Jose Mourinho insisted that they rid themselves of a player that did not want to be at the club.
Now a year on, Eriksen would have been an ideal replacement for Dele Alli – who was also linked with a move away.
Ultimately, CalcioMercato report that Inter refused Tottenham’s attempts to sign the playmaker on a loan without any fees and without paying any portion of his wages.
In the end, no such move was made as Alli also stayed put while Eriksen has played just 110 minutes of Serie A action this year.
