There is also concern Kane could miss Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Red Star Belgrade.

Lucas Moura is expected to take Kane’s place in the team today and either him or Son Heung-Min will likely play through the middle.

Despite the blow to the North Londoners, in more positive news, Ryan Sessegnon is part of the squad for the first time since he signed from Fulham in the summer.

The left-back had been out with a hamstring injury but has finally recovered and could challenge Danny Rose for a spot in the team.

England boss Gareth Southgate is expected at Goodison today which will give Sessegnon a chance to impress if he makes an appearance.

Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Everton’s Michael Keane will also be keen to perform well in front of their international boss.

Alli was heavily criticised after another disappointing showing during Spurs’s 2-1 defeat to at Anfield last weekend.

And Poch was forced to come out and defend the midfielder after Roy Keane said he’d been ineffective for “a year or two”.

Poch said: “We need to remember that Dele is still so young and the demand and the pressure on him is massive.

“Everyone expects big things from him but he’s only 23 years old. OK, he’s now dropped a little bit but we need to help and back him.”
