Tottenham are on the verge of signing PSV winger Steven Bergwijn, according to widespread reports.

Jose Mourinho is keen for Spurs to recruit a new striker to cope with the absence of Harry Kane, who could potentially miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his hamstring earlier this month.

But according to FOX Sports, De Telegraaf and ESPN, Spurs are keen to bolster their options on the flanks and are now close to wrapping up a deal with PSV for Bergwijn.

The Dutch winger was left out of PSV’s clash with Twente on Sunday and he is now reportedly travelling to London to finalise his move.

‘He called me this morning and said he didn’t want to play because he wants to focus on a possible transfer,’ said PSV’s interim coach Ernest Faber.

‘It is his choice. We respect that. We only need players who are 100% focused on PSV.’

The 22-year-old has been a key part of PSV’s side since 2016, scoring 31 goals and registering 41 assists in 149 appearances.

The Netherlands international would offer Jose Mourinho a versatile option in attack as he is capable of playing on the left or the right.

Bergwijn is set to become Spurs’ second signing this month following the arrival of Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan from Benfica.

Meanwhile, Spurs are set to lose Christian Eriksen, who is expected to undergo a medical with Inter on Monday ahead of his £16.8 million move.
