Jose Mourinho has delivered his first full-length interview as Tottenham manager and revealed his excitement about working with the current crop.

Quizzed about the squad he’s inherited from Mauricio Pochettino, Mourinho told the club’s official website: “It’s a privilege when a manager goes to a club and feels that happiness in relation to the squad he is going to have.

“It didn’t happen many times. To be honest, the majority of the times we go to clubs and we always think ‘we like some, I don’t like enough’ and you think immediately about what to do to change, what to do to make an approach between your ideas and the profile of the players.

“This is a completely different case, and these are not words of the moment, they are not words of me being the Tottenham Head Coach, these are words that I told and repeated in the last three, four, five years, even as an opponent.

“I really like this squad. Of course, I’m not going to say names, I’m not going to tell you individuals because this is completely against my concept of what a team has to be, but I like a lot the ability of the squad.”

Breathe easy…

Real Madrid stars can “breathe easy” again after Tottenham announced Jose Mourinho as their new manager.

Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs following a near year-long absence from the Premier League.

Rumours suggested that the Special One would return to Real and succeed under-fire boss Zinedine Zidane, which caused some concern among the club.

According to Sport, some of Los Blancos’ stars, such as team captain Sergio Ramos, were so worried about a possible Mourinho comeback that they were immensely satisfied once Tottenham took him off the market.

Wanted: Luis Campos

Jose Mourinho wants Lille sporting director Luis Campos to join him at Tottenham.

Campos has been responsible for unearthing superstars such as Bernardo Silva, Fabinho and Nicolas Pepe from relative obscurity before selling them for large profits.

The pair worked together at Real Madrid and still share a close relationship with Jose often invited to watch Lille in action.

ESPN FC claim the Portuguese tactician wants chairman Daniel Levy to approve a deal for Campos, who rejected Chelsea’s advances last season.

New arrivals

Tottenham have confirmed the arrival of Jose Mourinho’s new backroom staff.

Joao Sacramento, Carlos Lalin, Nuno Santos, Ricardo Formosinho and Giovanni Cerra have all joined the Portuguese tactician in north London after the dismissal of Mauricio Pochettino.

Portuguese Sacramento joins as assistant coach from French Ligue 1 side Lille, where he held the same position under Christophe Galtier.

He will take up the role in the absence of Mourinho’s long-time lieutenant Rui Faria, who is currently managing Qatari club Al-Duhail SC.

Goalkeeping coach Santos also joins from Lille, while Formosinho (tactical analyst), Cerra (technical analyst) and Lalin (fitness coach) were part of Mourinho’s staff at Manchester United.

Gareth Bale backed

Harry Redknapp says Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho could re-sign Gareth Bale.

Bale, 30, left Tottenham for Real Madrid in 2013, with the winger going on to win the Champions League four times.

“What a signing he’d be for the club,” Redknapp said on talkSPORT. “That would really get him onside straight away, the fans would love that.

“That would be an amazing move for him and would put Mourinho right in their good books.”

The first meeting

Jose Mourinho was at Tottenham’s training ground to meet his new squad on Wednesday afternoon following his appointment as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss signed a three-and-a-half-year contract less than 12 hours after Pochettino was sacked.

The 56-year-old, who had been out of work since leaving United last December, was at Hotspur Way meeting the club’s players and staff.

He was due to take training in the afternoon ahead of his unveiling press conference at 2pm on Thursday and first game in charge at West Ham on Saturday lunchtime.
