Harry Kane could feature again for Tottenham this season – if Spurs can make it to the Champions League final.

Kane has been out of action with an ankle injury since Tottenham’s clash with Manchester City on 9 April, and was initially expected to be out for the season.

Spurs have just two remaining Premier League fixtures, which the striker is very unlikely to return in time for, but if they can get past Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals then Kane could recover in time for the final on 1 June.

‘My gut is maybe he can be available [for the Champions League final], because I know Harry Kane,’ said Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino. ‘The determination to work and to be focused and recover as soon as possible.

‘But I am not a doctor. This is only my gut.

‘I hope he can be available. He’s doing well but today I cannot guess. He can be available before or after – that is going to depend on his rehab.

‘Now he is in a very good period that is going forward quick but always the last moment is the most difficult – to take the decision to play or not.’

Kane was seen at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday without a protective boot on his injured foot, which he had been wearing since picking up the problem.

The England captain has regularly suffered with ankle injuries in recent years and this is the second time this season he has been sidelined with the problem.

The 25-year-old missed over a month of action from January – February with an ankle injury and has also sat out for significant spells in each of the last two seasons.

Spurs take on Ajax in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final in north London on Tuesday night before travelling to Amsterdam on 8 May.
