Tottenham are leading Manchester United in the race to sign Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon, according to reports.

It’s been a baptism of fire for Sessegnon in his debut season in the Premier League, but the 18-year-old has given a good account of himself despite Fulham’s relegation, notching up two goals and six assists.

Sessegnon was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer after being named the Championship Player of the Season and the young winger remains on United’s radar.

However, according to The Daily Mirror, Spurs are in pole position to land the England Under-21 international.

The Cottagers are resigned to losing Sessegnon for a cut-price fee at the end of the season after their relegation from the English top flight was confirmed.

While Sessegnon was valued at around £50million last summer, Fulham are now prepared to do business for half that price due to the teenager’s contract situation.

Sessegnon is heading into the final 12 months of his deal at Craven Cottage and Fulham would prefer to cash in on their prized possession while they have the chance.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is a known admirer of Sessegnon and has sanctioned a bid for the Englishman ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Anderton hopes Tottenham show ambition in the summer transfer window (Picture: Getty)

Former Spurs midfielder Darren Anderton has urged the club to show ambition in the transfer market this summer.

Asked if Pochettino deserves sizeable financial backing, Anderton told talkSPORT: “Yes he certainly does. Pochettino has done unbelievably well since he’s come to the club.

‘He’s taken Spurs on and all the players who were there before he’s improved individually. But they’ve got to keep improving the team.

‘The new stadium was built for Champions League football, not the Europa League, so they’ve got to get into that next year for sure.

‘In order to bring new players in as well, if you want the best players in the world, you’ve got to play in that competition.

‘When it comes down to it, they’ve got to start winning trophies and bringing in more players, world class players.’
