Tory crisis over? Conservative support surges as Boris nears Downing Street

The latest YouGov poll shows the Conservatives reinvigorated as they sit on top with 25 percent, while Mr Farage’s party has dropped to 19 percent. The Conservative Party sunk to just 17 percent in the polls when Theresa May quit as leader, while Nigel Farage’s party was on 26 percent but the Tories. Boris Johnson forecast a surge in Tory Party support at Hustings yesterday.

He said: “I know people are down in the dumps about our party, but the darkest hour comes before the dawn.

“We can do this! We are going to come back and we are going to win!”

Mr Johnson ruled out doing a deal with the Brexit Party, saying: “I don’t think we should do deals with any party.

“We are the Conservative Party.

“We are going to restore trust and confidence in our party.

“I will rule it out, I will rule it out.”

Mr Johnson also revealed that Nigel Farage had once tried to “recruit” him during a meeting in a pub.

He said: “We met for a Cold War style meeting. He tried to recruit me and I tried to recruit him and we both failed.

“I was a journalist at the time and I think he was a metals dealer.”

The latest polling data came as Remainer MPs won their latest battle to make a No Deal Brexit more difficult.

Mr Farage and his party have seen support drop in recent weeks as both Mr Johnson and Mr Hunt insisted they are committed to ensuring the UK leaves the EU on October 31.

Mr Johnson said he will deliver Brexit ‘do or die’ by Halloween with or without a deal.

Mr Hunt has also stressed the importance of sticking to the current deadline, although he said he would agree to a short delay if a new deal was in sight.

Yougov polled 1749 people between July 16 and July 17.
