Torchwood star John Barrowman’s top three holiday destinations – ‘the most beautiful city'

Talking of the former, TUI holiday’s new ambassador gushed: “We had a great time when we went to Rome on a city break.

“We hired scooters and we saw everything we wanted to see on that vacation.

“We saw a lot more because we had the scooters and we went on an adventure.

“So I’d say to anyone going on holiday, make sure you stick with the holiday you want, but if there are adventurous things you can do, challenge yourself and go for it.”

Talking of his own adventurous streak during a trip to Antigua Jon, 52, added: “When we were in Antigua we loved it so much we put a deposit on a house there.

“Though because when we got back, with all the flight times and differences, we talked ourselves out of it.

“All the motion was there, though.”

Rounding off his list, he added: “The other one was Australia.

“We went four times last year and we have been to many different cities. When I took my parents and Scott after the jungle, we took them to Sydney for a week and it’s probably one of the most beautiful cities in the world.”

Meanwhile, John disclosed how he would head back to Australia another time “in a heartbeat”, for round two of his jungle experience.

Life cooped up with critters and bugs did not seem to bother him.

And, as such, he would love to head off on a safari as one of his next destinations.

Meanwhile, he let slip his top tips for beating jet lag, for travellers set to make a long haul trip.

He said: “When I travel from the UK what I normally do is I get on the plane, I have my meal and then I usually try to sleep. That generally works.

“When I was flying to Australia because the flight leaves LA at 11pm, you are basically getting on the plane the first few hours you have your dinner and watch a movie then after four hours the we go to sleep.

“Then you can sleep for the rest of the next 10 hours. You’re waking up it’s 6am when you land – although you have lost a day, because time jumps forward, you are still landing at 6am so you still have a good night’s sleep.”
