Topshop has launched a vegan shoe collection and we want them all

With the harmful effects of the fashion industry at the forefront of everyone’s minds right now, we’re all looking for ways to switch up our sartorial habits and work towards a fairer, greener future.

Yet even high street brands have allowed us to introduce sustainably farmed cotton, recycled plastic fibres and faux fur into our wardrobes, our shoe cupboard hasn’t quite kept pace with the latest wave of innovation.

All that looks set to change though, because Topshop is taking some stylish – and very sustainable – steps forward with the launch of its first-ever vegan shoe collection.

The new range features six fashion-forward silhouettes, such as retro square-toed sandals, studded Birkenstock-style slides, and block-heeled snakeskin mules, that each come in two different colourways.

The collection is handmade in Spain from non-animal materials and non-fish glue, making them 100 per cent vegan-friendly, and even has the stamp of approval from renowned animal rights organisation, PETA.

Topshop announced that the new footwear even comes in packaging free from animal products, so you can rest in the knowledge that your new purchase is 100% vegan-friendly.

“We are really excited to be launching our first vegan collection this April,” said Topshop’s fashion director, Maddy Evans.

“Initially we’re focusing on footwear and introducing six new styles that are produced alongside our premium shoe lines in Spain.

“We can’t wait to see how shoppers respond to the design-led collection and how far we can push vegan products across our accessories offering.”

Better yet, Topshop has confirmed that this is just the beginning of their foray into sustainable, cruelty-free accessories, so we can look forward to seeing plenty more high street fashion that doesn’t come at the cost of the planet.

With eco credentials this good, we can totally justify adding these gorgeous pink mock snakeskin slingbacks to our shopping list. We’ll see you at the checkout…

The collection is available to buy online now and in selected Topshop stores. Prices start from £42.
