ON-DEMAND TV giant Netflix is increasing its prices.
The rise means customers will have to pay £11.99 for the premium package and £8.99 for its standard plan, up from £9.99 and £7.99 respectively.
If you don’t fancy forking out that much to sit in front of the TV, here are some clever tips to help streamline your gogglebox bills.
- Split makes sense: Sharing your account with others is an easy way to save money. Netflix lets people living in the same house use the same plan at the same time with a standard or premium account. Splitting the cost of a premium plan between four of you would cost £2.50 each, saving you £3.49 each compared with a personal basic package.
- Give it a trial: Only want to binge-watch a couple of shows? Netflix offers a 30-day trial period for its premium plan, worth up to £11.99 a month. Amazon Prime also has a 30-day trial, and NOW TV has a seven-day option. Just remember to cancel your subscription at the end.
- Free time: Cut out subscriptions altogether. You will find plenty of amazing series on free streaming sites, such as BBC iPlayer, All 4 and My5. Check out Killing Eve and Miranda on iPlayer, or First Dates and The IT Crowd on All 4.
- It all adds up: Check if you can add a streaming service to your existing TV plan. If you have Sky Q, you can save £7 by buying Netflix and Sky Box Sets together. Adding Netflix’s standard plan usually costs £19 per month, but combining it with Sky Box Sets — normally £5 a month — costs just £12.
- Pay as you go: A pay-per-view service is a much cheaper option if you only tune in every now and then. Virgin Media customers can use Virgin Movies, which has more than 500 titles from £3.99. Sign up to Rakuten for free to rent TV shows from £9.99 and films from £3.49. Google Play offers downloads starting from 99p.
