Top Gear: Freddie Flintoff screams in near-fatal crash 'I can't stop!'

Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris have undoubtedly revitalised Top Gear this series with BBC One viewing figures continuing to rise. The surge in ratings is in no small part down to the chemistry the three share but may also have something to do with the high-octane stunts viewers have become accustomed to. However, on Sunday, fans will witness one segment almost go horribly wrong for the former England cricketer.

In tomorrow’s episode, Top Gear fans will see Paddy, Freddie and Chris all go head-to-head in a new challenge.

The trio will race one another in their respective vehicles to see which is fast, although, as always, there’s a twist.

Freddie races on a motorised trike named Time Bandit, Chris takes to the wheel of a Nissan GTR and Paddy hits the pedal of a motorised shed.

In a first-clip from the BBC, the race doesn’t end well for Freddie as he hits a speed of 120mph and beyond.

The camera onboard Freddie’s trike then shows the Top Gear host clearly nervous as he yells: “I can’t stop.”

Freddie’s panic continues as he nears the end of the strip: “Whoa, I’m running out of runway! I’m running out of runway!”

The Top Gear host then crashes into the surrounding field while at hair-raising speed.

A witness who saw the incident firsthand told The Sun: “He was going flat out. Then there was an almighty bang. Dust was flying everywhere and everyone raced over.”

Despite the impact, Freddie was checked over by on-site medics before finishing up filming.

He said: “I’m absolutely fine and have been back filming.

“I go to great lengths to make sure I do well in Top Gear drag races but, on this occasion, I went a few lengths too far.

“It will look more ridiculous than dangerous when you see it on TV.”

Top Gear continues on Sunday at 8pm on BBC Two.
