League of Legends and Fortnite create space at the top of the Twitch ranks as Grand Theft Auto V slowly declines.

The following content is ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch Database-Link-e1521645463907, from Monday to the following Sunday, with data compiled using TEO Access.

Keep ‘Em Separated

After the spring saw numerous titles like Grand Theft Auto V and Apex Legends Database-Link-e1521645463907 challenge the top titles from 2018, League of Legends Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Fortnite Database-Link-e1521645463907 have again created some separation between themselves and other games at the top of the charts on Twitch.

While Apex Legends saw a relatively swift decline out of the top tier following impressive viewership during its release month in February, Grand Theft Auto V streaming has spent much of the spring racking up strong viewership stats thanks to help from streamers like Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris and Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar.

However, with Morris and Lazar no longer playing GTA, the game’s starpower has declined resulting in a dip in viewership. Though the game has still been able to generate 10M+ hours watched, it doesn’t have nearly the same reach it once had, and is no longer comparable to the more established top two games on Twitch.

Something Special

Twitch’s main official channel managed to sneak into the top 10 channels for the week with coverage of the opening conferences at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, but it wasn’t just the main Twitch channel that had coverage.

The “Special Events” category on Twitch has been booming since the conference started due in part to influencers being allowed to co-stream the conference on their Twitch channel with their own special commentary. Instead of being subjected to watching the conference alone or chatting in the official channel’s chat, viewers have been able to experience E3 in whatever form they choose by watching alongside various streaming personalities who provide their own input on the conference from the comfort of their personal channel with their own community of Twitch chatters.

No More Nostalgia?

World of Warcraft Classic Database-Link-e1521645463907 beta testing saw an influx of content released this past week, but hours watched on the whole has declined after Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris took a leave of absence to go on vacation with his family.

The decline in viewership for WoW as a whole shows that, while WoW Classic has its appeal to many viewers, the power and influence a streamer of Morris’ caliber holds doesn’t necessarily trickle down to other streamers in the same game when he’s gone.

It’s impossible to identify exactly where those viewers go, but it’s obvious that WoW Classic’s dip has come at least partly because it’s missing its most-watched streamer.
