Tony Blair blasts ‘hopelessly out of date’ Jeremy Corbyn

TONY Blair has mocked Jeremy Corbyn as “hopelessly out of date” in a damning speech on the state of the Labour party.

Mr Blair also attacked the far-left leader over his disastrous approval ratings and bizarre manifesto.

He said: “Labour’s aim is not to trend on Twitter or to have celebrities temporarily fawn over us, our task is to win power’

“Our latest defeat was entirely predictable and predicted.

“We went into the election with a leader with a -40 per cent approval rating on political ground chosen by our opponents and a manifesto promising the earth but from a planet other than Earth.”

Mr Blair also urged the next Labour boss to stop squabbling about hard-left politics and have the “mentality of government”.

He said: “Our task is to win power and get our hands stuck into the muddy mangle of governing, where out of it can be pulled the prize of progress.

“Nothing less than ‘born again’ head to toe renewal, will do.”

The big beast of the party also claimed Labour could become irrelevant if it didn’t act now.

He explained: “We now have another Tory Government for five years, and possibly for 10.

“Were that to happen, Labour would have been in office less than a quarter of its existence.”

His comments come just days before voting in the final stage of the Labour leadership race is due to begin.

Sir Keir Starmer, Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy are all running for the top job.

Mr Starmer is currently the favourite, with political betting aggregator BonusCodeBets.co.uk having him at at 1/9, Ms Long-Bailey at 13/2, and Ms Nandy on 16/1/

Voting will begin on Monday and will close on April 2, with a winner announced on April 4.
