Tommy Cannon has thanked fans ‘from the bottom of his heart’ after he and Bobby Ball’s song reached the Official Charts this week.
It comes after it was confirmed that Bobby died at the age of 76 on Wednesday after testing positive for coronavirus.
Taking to Twitter days after his pals’ death, Tommy shared with his followers that the duo’s song, Together We’ll Be OK had reached the Official Charts.
‘I know Bobby would be looking down and feeling very proud that we got back into the charts this week as well with Together We’ll Be Ok,’ he tweeted.
‘Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart.’
Bobby and Tommy found fame on the Cannon and Ball Show in the 80s, and their friendship became one of the most cherished partnerships on TV.
Their variety show ended in 1988 after 12 years on-air and Ball went on to land several acting gigs, such as Last Of The Summer Wine from 2005 until 2008 in which he played the character, Lenny.
The duo’s theme song Together We’ll Be OK was written by noted composer Nigel Hess in 1978.
Cannon and Ball fans were quick to respond to Tommy’s tweet, with many saying they had been singing the song all week.
Others told the star that it will help everyone get through the coronavirus pandemic.
One fan commented: ‘I’ve not stopped listening to it.’
One added: ‘I’ve been humming it all week Tommy, it’s brought a lot of light to our home this past few days. So sorry for your loss.’
Another tweeted: ‘Downloaded and now my ringtone. It’s the song to get us all through Covid. God bless you both x’
Countless names from across the entertainment industry flocked to pay their respects to Bobby after his manager confirmed the tragic news of his death in a statement.
‘It is with great personal sadness that on behalf of Yvonne Ball, and the family, and Tommy Cannon, I announce that Bobby Ball passed away at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on the 28th October 2020 approximately 21:30,’ the statement began.‘
‘Bobby had been taken to the hospital for tests as he started with breathing problems. At first it was thought to be a chest infection but a test proved positive for Covid-19.’
It went on: ‘His wife Yvonne said the hospital and staff could not have been more wonderful, as they were outstanding in their care of duty and they did everything possible for him and she cannot praise them enough.
‘She said that the family and Tommy would like to express their sincere thanks to the many, many people who have been fans of Bobby and they know that they will all share in part the great loss and total sadness that Yvonne, the family and Tommy all feel.
‘Yvonne added that their need for privacy at this time has to be a priority. No further announcements or statements will be made.’
