Spider-Man stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon have pranked everyone by sharing fake movie titles for the third instalment – but is there more to the joke than meets the eye?

Fans are hyped for the next movie, which will star the iconic trio once again, with theories flying about.

So it’s no surprise that they’re trying to get Tom, who’s not known for being too tight-lipped with Marvel’s spoilery secrets, and his co-stars to let something slip.

Joking around with fans, Tom released a new look at the film, teasing ahead of his appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon: ‘So excited to announce the new Spider-Man title. Can’t wait for you lot to see what we have been up to. Love from Atlanta.’

However, the title he shared wasn’t exactly convincing, with his poster reading: ‘Spider-Man: Phone Home.’

Zendaya’s (MJ) title wasn’t much better, with her poster reading: ‘Spider-Man: Homeslice’.

As for Jacob’s (Ned)? Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker.

However, while the trio could very well just be trolling us, fans are convinced they’re dropping hints, specifically about the rumours that previous Spider-Man stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will make an appearance.

Tobey originally starred as Spidey in the 2002 Sony film, while Andrew took on the role for The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012.

Tom previously denied the rumours, telling Esquire: ‘No, no, they will not be appearing in this film.

‘Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.’

However, fans aren’t convinced, pointing out that the movie titles could reference iconic moments in each of the actors’ eras as the superhero.

‘Hear me out,’ one wrote. ‘Home-Slice is referring to the pizza delivery Tobey McGuire Spider-Man. Home-Wrecker is referring to Andrew Garfield Spider-Man wrecking the lives of Gwen Stacys family. Phone-Home is referencing Tom Holland Spider-Man always calling Tony and Happy. BAM. Multiverse [sic].’

‘Y’ALL WHAT IF EACH SPIDERMAN TITLE IS FOR THE SPIDERMAN FROM A DIFFERENT UNIVERSE? •Home Slice = Tobey Maguire •Home Wrecker = Andrew Garfield •Phone Home = Tom Holland,’ another added.

One more suggested: ‘This is what I think: Wrecker will be a new villain in the series on tom’s side of things. Phone according to google equals green goblin aka for tobey maguire And then slice accordingly refers to lizard which is Andrew garfield.’

Only time will tell…

Spider-Man 3 is slated for release on December 17.
