Tom Hardy wife: The heartfelt way Peaky Blinders star helped wife overcome fear

Charlotte Riley and Tom Hardy became engaged a year after meeting, and have since had two children. It’s no secret that the Peaky Blinders star is a keen dog lover, with the Hollywood star frequently snapped with his pets in public in the past. But in Charlotte’s case, the actress didn’t always share her husband’s adoration for canines.

In fact, in an interview with the Mail On Sunday in 2013, Charlotte disclosed that her husband helped her to overcome a lifelong fear of the animal.

Charlotte previously had a bad experience with a dog, when she was badly bitten as a two-year-old.

However, a few years ago Tom brought a rescue dog home with him one day, while he was filming in the US.

Charlotte recounted the day: “He adores dogs and when he was filming Lawless in Atlanta he found this abandoned puppy on a freeway.

“He adopted him, got all the necessary vaccinations done and brought him home.”

Charlotte added: “He’s called Woody and I am totally in love with him – he has now grown into this huge beautiful dog that Tom’s little boy Louis rides like a horse.”

Woody sadly passed away in 2017, after battling an aggressive form of polymyositis at the age of six.

In tribute to his furry friend, a heartbroken Tom said on his Tumblr page: “He didn’t have a bad bone in his body. All he knew was love.”

Tom added: “He was an angel. And he was my best friend.

“We went through so much together.

“Charlotte worked tirelessly with him to get him through a rough case of separation anxiety.

“He loved her like his Mum. And when she was pregnant he guarded her fiercely.”

Throughout his career, Tom has spoken publicly about his love of dogs, and he’s owned quite a few over his lifetime.

Tom previously had a Staffie-Labrador called Max, who sadly passed away in 2011.

Charlotte and Tom are now thought to have added a French bulldog called Blue to their family.
