Tom Hanks 'feeling better after two weeks with virus' says 'self-isolate now'

Tom Hanks has given a positive update to his coronavirus diagnosis.

The 63-year-old Hollywood legend has been in quarantine in Australia along with his wife Rita Wilson, also 63, after the pair fell ill with Covid-19 while filming.

After being hospitalised, they were eventually given the opportunity to self-isolate in Queensland, where they rented a house for the duration.

Two weeks after the diagnosis, it seems that Tom has finally shook off the virus and he took the opportunity to urge everyone to self-isolate sooner rather than later if the deadly pandemic was to be defeated.

Taking to Twitter, Tom wrote: “Hey, folks. Two weeks after our first symptoms and we feel better. Sheltering in place works like this: You don’t give it to anyone – You don’t get it from anyone. Common sense, no?”

Tom continued: “Going to take awhile, but if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts…this, too, shall pass. We can figure this out. Hanx.”

There has been consternation both in the UK and the United States that social distancing is not being observed and the idea of self-isolation is not being taken seriously enough.

The Forrest Gump actor had been in Australia to film an Elvis biopic with Baz Luhrmann, in which he is playing the legendary singer’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Tom’s diagnosis has brought filming to a halt, though it is thought that he is the only one on the set that has tested positive to the virus.

The following day after announcing his diagnosis, Tom provided more information about their condition.

He wrote on Instagram : “Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us.

“We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness.”

“We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?”

In one of his more recent communiques, Tom and Rita showed that they had taken to playing cards as they looked to sit out their time in isolation.

The Tinseltown favourite wrote: “Hey folks. Good News: One week after testing Positive, in self-isolation, the symptoms are much the same. No fever but the blahs.

“Folding the laundry and doing the dishes leads to a nap on the couch. Bad news: My wife @ritawilson has won 6 straight hands of Gin Rummy and leads by 201 points.”
