Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have left hospital five days after testing positive for coronavirus.

The 63-year-old actor was one of the first celebrities to publicly confirm he’d contracted the illness last week while staying in Australia ahead of shooting for Baz Luhrmann’s new Elvis Presley biopic, and was immediately taken to a hospital in Queensland for treatment.

However, a spokesperson for the couple has now confirmed that both Tom and Rita, also 63, have left hospital Australia’s Gold Coast and are now quarantining themselves in their rental home.

The Hanks’ diagnosis shook the world last week, as Tom broke the news via an Instagram post.

‘Hello, folks. @ritawilson and I are down here in Australia,’ he wrote.

‘We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

‘Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?’

A couple of days later, Tom returned to the ‘gram to thank his ‘helpers’ for their support as she shared an extremely Aussie snap of a toy kangaroo and some toast and Vegemite, captioning the post: ‘Thanks to the Helpers. Let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Hanx.’

Now, if the sight of the actor’s factor-50 thick Vegemite makes you feel slightly ill, you’re not alone, with even his own son Colin admitting that his dad had gone too far.

‘I’ve been saying “That’s way too much for one piece of toast” to him for years,’ the 42-year-old cheekily tweeted.

Honestly, if excessive amounts of Vegemite is what it takes to keep the Hanks family healthy, we’ll take it.
