Richard Buckley has died, aged 72.

The noted fashion journalist and husband of designer Tom Ford, 60, died on Sunday, at his home in LA.

A statement from the fashion icon’s reps confirmed the sad news, reading: ‘It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley.

‘Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles last night with Tom and their son Jack by his side.

‘He died of natural causes after a prolonged illness.’

Buckley began his career at New York Magazine in 1979, before going on to work for a string of publications, including Vanity Fair, Women’s Wear Daily and Italian Vogue.

He was later named editor in chief of Vogue Hommes International, in 1999.

The writer met husband Ford at a fashion show in 1986, with the pair becoming inseparable shortly after.

Three years after they began dating, Buckley was diagnosed with throat cancer, and underwent surgery in 1989.

The couple tied the knot in 2014, and welcomed son Alexander Buckley Ford together via a surrogate, in 2012.

Speaking of their bond in a candid appearance on the Jess Cagle interview, Ford said of their first meeting: ‘Our eyes locked and within a month we were living together. We have been together ever since.

Recalling the moment, he explained that he could still ‘vividly remmeber’ their first encounter in a lift, claiming that he knew the pair would be together by the end of the ride.

‘By the time that elevator landed on the ground floor I thought, “You’re the one.” That’s it. Click. Sold,’ he said.

‘It was literally love at first sight.’

Buckley is survived by husband Tom and son Alexander.
